Ugas Yasin Ugas Abdurahman (died 30 December 2000) was a Somali ruler. He was the 28th Chieftain (UGAAS) of the Dishiishe chieftainship, (UGAASTOOYO) who also was the nominal ugas of the Harti clan of Darod groups, reigning from 1940 to 2000. Ugas was a former ruler of Bosaso. Along with other Somali traditional rulers, Ugas Yasin was one of the most prominent rulers of present-day Somalia and the longest served traditional ruler in the history of all Somali traditional rulers. Bosaso was represented in the parliament of the succeeding Trust Territory of Somaliland by Ugas Yasin. [1] [2] [3]

Overview

Ugas was the powerful Ruler of Dishiishe Chieftainship. He also enjoyed other titles Including "The Master," "The cultural role model," and "the Religious scholar." During the 1950s, Ugas fled to northwestern Somalia, which was then under the rule of the United Kingdom. Upon his arrival in the northwestern regions, he was accorded warmth and brotherly reception by tribal elders, intellectuals among other elite individuals and of the communities at large.

Ugas was known to be one of the kindest rulers of all Somali territories, as many sub-clans who were not under his rule desired to be under his rule because of his kind and just actions. In his long rule, he dominated most of the western part of the Bari region of Somalia. Ugas had spent most of his time in Bosaso, the town was his base and the location of the barracks of his soldiers.

Yasin was one of the youngest traditional rulers, as he occupied power in his 20s. He was also one of the most well-educated Somali rulers. His prominent nickname was Ruler of Bosaso. His most important barracks were Bosaso, Yalho, Karin and Laas Dawaco.

Burial

Ugas Yasin was buried at Ugaas Yaasiin garden near Bosaso on 30 December 2000.

The Harti, (Somali: Harti, Arabic: هرتي, lit. 'strong man'), are a Somali clan that trace their lineage back to SalehAbdi (Harti). They are a sub-clan of the larger Darod clan. Notable sub-clans within Harti include the Majeerteen, Dhulbahante, and the Warsengeli. They predominantly reside in the apex of the Horn of Africa and its surrounding regions. Furthermore, in the southern territories, the clan's settlements span both sides of the Kenya-Somalia border.

Ayr is a Somali clan that is part of the larger Habar Gidir Hawiye clan. The Ayr clan is the eldest Habargidir sub-clan and is the largest Habargidir sub-clan in population. The Ayr clan have a rich history in Somali society and has played an important role in shaping Somali history and national politics. Members of the clan reside in 6 out of the total 18 regions of Somalia but are primarily found in the central region of Somalia - Galgaduud region which they hold a monopoly over and is considered their heartlands. They are considered the most powerful sub-clan in central and southern Somalia controlling important sections of the country and greatly influencing the nation's capital Mogadishu, holding the 1st mayorship position in the post-independence era. The Ayr are regarded as being very large in numbers because they are spread throughout numerous regions in Somalia and are significant to the country's political, economic, social, and military sectors.

Abdullahi Bile Noor, better known as Bile, is a Somali politician. He served for many years in the government and has extensive experience in public policy, public administration and business. He currently serves as Member of the Federal Parliament of Somalia and a member of the current cabinet. He is one of Somalia's longest serving national legislators.

Abdirizak Osman Hassan 'Jurile', commonly known as Jurile, is a Somali British politician, diplomat and professor, he served as Somali Minister of Planning and International Cooperation from July 2004 to December 2007, and later became Somali Minister of Postal Cooperation and Telecommunications. Jurile was twice or more a Member of the Federal Parliament's lower house, before moving to the Upper House (senate) of the Parliament of Somalia in October 2016. He was responsible administratively and operationally to build The Garowe–Bosaso Highway and the Port of Bosaso in the Bari province. The highway starts from the Port of Bosaso and continues south as a single carriageway up over the Al-Miskat hills and downwards toward Qardho. It continues from there around 205 km (127.6 mi) southwards to Garowe thereafter the thoroughfare joins the Mogadishu – Berbera highway.

Yasin Mire Mohamud is a Somali politician. He was mayor of Bosaso from 2015 to 2018, the commercial capital and biggest of the autonomous Puntland region in northeastern Somalia, after the city's District Council unanimously voted for him in 2014. He also in charge in other offices.

Ugas Hassan Ugas Yasin (Somali: Ugaas Xasan Ugaas Yaasiin, Arabic: اوغاس حسن اوغاس ياسين, is the supreme traditional clan elder of Dishiishe clan. Ugas Hassan belongs to a dynastical line of succession that continued for centuries. On 15 July 2001 he was crowned, it's said the coronation was conducted at behest of his late father Ugas Yasin. Between 1974-90 he was in the service holding the rank of colonel, in 1987 he went to Italy where he had joined the academy Cievieta Vecchia in Rome.

The Baho Nugaaleed the leader baho nugaaleed Khair Abdi [Qayaad], is a division of Somali clan that is part of the Dhulbahante clan-family. The primary homeland of these clans include the regions of Sool and Sanaag And Dmco Doollo DDS in SSC KHAATUMO, the Lower Juba region in Somalia and the Dollo Zone in Ethiopia. The Bah Nugaaleed are composed of three major sub-groups Qayaad Majors in accordance with their locality in the SSCD regions. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Gadabuursi Ughazate</span> 1575 to 1884 Northern Somali kingdom

The Gadabuursi Ughazate or Ugasate evolved from and was a successor kingdom to the Adal Sultanate and Sultanate of Harar. The first Ughaz (Ugaas) of this successor kingdom, Ali Makail Dera was the son of Makail Dera, the progenitor of the Makayl-Dheere. During the late 19th century, as the region became subject to colonial rule, the Ughaz assumed a more traditional and ceremonial leadership of the clan. The Gadabuursi give their King the title of Ughaz. It's an authentic Somali term for King or Sultan. The Gadabuursi in particular are one of the clans with a long tradition of the institution of Sultan.

Deshiishe is a Somali clan. It is part of the Darod Harti sub-clan. Members of the clan primarily live in Puntland, especially Bari, Karkaar and Sanaag regions. Clan members are also found in Kismanyo in southern Somalia.

Sainab Ugas Yasin is a Somali politician. She was a member of Puntland parliament in power for two consecutive terms. Later, she served as deputy minister of finance at puntland government. Apart from her career as a politician, she is an advocate for women’s participation in politics.

Capo Sandhool Guure (1880–1969) better known as Sandhool Guure was a famous elder and leader of the Hawadle clan.

Ughaz Roble I, Osmanya: 𐒚𐒌𐒔𐒖 𐒇𐒙𐒁𐒐𐒗, Arabic: أوغاس روبل), also known as Roblay, Robli, Robleh, and Robiley. Known by many as the Rain Prince was the 14th Ughaz of the Issa Ughazate. The Issa are northern Somali clan, a sub-division of the Dir clan family.
