Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji (born 1964) is a Nigerian politician, academic, author, and publisher. [3] He is the Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs in Imo State, and the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Homeland Security and Intelligence. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). [4] [5]
Ugorji was born in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria. He obtained a master's degree in Homeland Security from the George Washington University in May 2019. He also obtained a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision in 1994, and Certified Public Manager Studies in 1989–1990, at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He obtained a Master of Arts in Counseling and Personnel Services in 1989, a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1987, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1986, at Trenton State College (now known as The College of New Jersey), in Ewing Township, New Jersey. He completed a graduate internship Programme at the Office of Career Services at Princeton University in 1988–1989. [3] [6]
Ugorji is the founder and publisher of Sungai Books, a publishing company based in Princeton, New Jersey, USA. [7] He has written and published books on Nigerian politics, international relations, and African-American culture. [8] He is also the executive director of the African Writers Endowment, a non-profit organization that promotes African literature and culture. [9]
Ugorji joined politics in 1998, when he contested for the governorship of Imo State under the banner of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). [10] He later joined the APC and became an ally of Governor Uzodimma. In 2020, he was appointed as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Homeland Security and Intelligence, and in 2021, he was also made the Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs. Ugorji is married to Uchenna Kate Ugorji, a pediatrician and public health expert. They have six children and reside in Owerri, Imo State. [24]
Mbaise is a region in Imo State in southeastern Nigeria. In the heart of Igboland, the region includes several towns and cities. The population is composed of indigenous clans, connected by intermarriage. With a population density of over 1,000 people per square kilometer, Mbaise is West Africa's most densely-populated area; its 2006 population was 611,204.

Obowo is located about 45 minutes from Owerri, across the Imo River and is less than 30 minutes from the Umuahia and Ahiara in opposite directions with the Amanze seven and a half (71/2) junction and landmark in-between. It is surrounded by Ahiazu and Aboh Mbaise Local Government Areas to the north and Umuahia Abia State to the East.

Ahiazu Mbaise is a Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. It is as a result of a merger between Ahiara and Ekwerazu. Its headquarters are in the town of Afo oru. There are fourteen (14) towns that make up Ahiazu Mbaise. Hope Odidika Uzodimma is a Nigerian politician who has served as the governor of Imo State since 2020. On 14 January 2020, the Supreme Court of Nigeria declared Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2019 governorship poll in Imo State, nullifying the election of the then-incumbent governor Emeka Ihedioha.
Chukwuemeka Ihedioha ; born 24 March 1965) is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as governor of Imo State from 2019 to 2020. He was removed from office on 14 January 2020, by the Supreme Court of Nigeria which declared the APC candidate the authentic winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election. He was deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria from 2011 to 2015.

The 2023 Imo State gubernatorial election was held on 11 November 2023 due to the belated inauguration of incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma, to elect the Governor of Imo State. Incumbent APC Governor Hope Uzodinma was re-elected, with him winning all the 27 local government areas. LP candidate Athan Achonu has filed a lawsuit against Uzodinma claiming that the election was "marred by irregularities, including vote buying and physical assaults of LP agents, and thus deserving of outright cancellation".
Local elections in Imo State in Nigeria were held on 12 March 2022. Elections were held across the 27 local government areas and 305 INEC wards across the state to elect local Government Councils and Chairmen.
