Ujjwal Maulik [1] is an Indian computer scientist and educator. [2] He is a professor and former head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, West Bengal, India [3] [4] . He has worked in many countries including India, US, Germany, France, Australia, China, Italy, Poland, Mexico, Slovenia and Hungary. He also held the position of the principal-in-charge and the head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Kalyani Government Engineering College. [5]

Education

Maulik did his schooling from Nabadwip Bakultala High School, Nabadwip, Nadia and Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, [6] Rahara, 24 Parganas (North) both in West Bengal. Subsequently, he completed B.Sc. in physics and B. Tech. in computer science from University of Calcutta, [7] Kolkata, West Bengal, India in 1986 and 1989. He also received his M. Tech. in computer science and Ph.D. in engineering in 1992 and 1997 at Jadavpur University, [8] Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He did post-doctoral research at the University of New South Wales, Australia [9] in 1999 and the University of Texas, Arlington, [10] U.S. in 2001.

Research and other activities

Maulik and his research group have contributed towards the development of science and engineering especially in the areas of AI in health care, [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] Bioinformatics, [19] [20] [21] [22] [23] [24] [25] intelligent transport system, [26] [27] supervised and unsupervised machine learning, [28] [29] [30] [31] [32] [33] and social and biological networks. [34] [35] [36] [37]

As an Alexander von Humboldt Experienced Researcher, he has worked at the German Cancer Research Center and Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg, Germany in 2010, 2011, and 2012. He was a senior associate of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Italy from 2012 to 2018. He has also worked in Viswa Bharati University, India, Los Alamos National laboratory, US, University of Maryland at Baltimore County, US, Heidelberg University, Germany, Tsinghua University, China, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, University of Padova, Italy, Grenoble Institute of Technology, France, [38] University of Warsaw, Poland [39] and University of Ljubljana, Slovenia [40] .

He is the fellow of the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology, [41] Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), [42] National Academy Sciences India (NASI), [43] the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). [44] He is also a Distinguish member of ACM. [45] He is also a Distinguish Speaker of ACM and Distinguish Lecturer of IEEE CIS.

His research interests include data science, machine learning, bioinformatics, and the Internet of things. [46] In these areas he has published twelve books. [47]

Shahid H. Bokhari is a highly cited Pakistani researcher in the field of parallel and distributed computing. He is a fellow of both IEEE and ACM. Bokhari's ACM Fellow citation states that he received the award for his "research contributions to automatic load balancing and partitioning of distributed processes", while his IEEE Fellow award recognises his "contributions to the mapping problem in parallel and distributed computing".

Kalyanmoy Deb is an Indian computer scientist. Deb is the Herman E. & Ruth J. Koenig Endowed Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering at Michigan State University. Deb is also a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University.

Özalp Babaoğlu, is a Turkish computer scientist. He is currently professor of computer science at the University of Bologna, Italy. He received a Ph.D. in 1981 from the University of California at Berkeley. He is the recipient of 1982 Sakrison Memorial Award, 1989 UNIX InternationalRecognition Award and 1993 USENIX AssociationLifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the UNIX system community and to Open Industry Standards. Before moving to Bologna in 1988, Babaoğlu was an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University. He has participated in several European research projects in distributed computing and complex systems. Babaoğlu is an ACM Fellow and has served as a resident fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bologna and on the editorial boards for ACM Transactions on Computer Systems, ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems and Springer-Verlag Distributed Computing.

Ian F. Akyildiz is a Turkish-American electrical engineer. He received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, in 1978, 1981 and 1984, respectively. Currently, he is the President and CTO of the Truva Inc. since March 1989. He retired from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Georgia Tech in 2021 after almost 35 years service as Ken Byers Chair Professor in Telecommunications and Chair of the Telecom group.

Bernard M. E. Moret is a Swiss-American computer scientist, an emeritus professor of Computer Science at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. He is known for his work in computational phylogenetics, and in particular for mathematics and methods for computing phylogenetic trees using genome rearrangement events.

Bing Liu is a Chinese-American professor of computer science who specializes in data mining, machine learning, and natural language processing. In 2002, he became a scholar at University of Illinois at Chicago. He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (1988). His PhD advisors were Austin Tate and Kenneth Williamson Currie, and his PhD thesis was titled Reinforcement Planning for Resource Allocation and Constraint Satisfaction.

Ümit V. Çatalyürek is a professor of computer science at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and adjunct professor in department of Biomedical Informatics at the Ohio State University. He is known for his work on graph analytics, parallel algorithms for scientific applications, data-intensive computing, and large scale genomic and biomedical applications. He was the director of the High Performance Computing Lab at the Ohio State University. He was named Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2016 for contributions to combinatorial scientific computing and parallel computing.

Katya Rodríguez-Vázquez is a Mexican computer scientist whose research involves genetic programming and its applications in system identification, the problem of reconstructing models of dynamical systems from measurements of their behavior. She is a researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), in the Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y Sistemas.

Ross Baldick is an American professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) fellow of power and energy society. He is the chairman of the System Economics Sub-Committee of the IEEE Power Engineering and an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Systems.
