Uma Nath Singh (born 15 January 1954) is an Indian Judge and former Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

Career

Singh passed from Ewing Christian College and completed a law degree from the Allahabad University in 1980. [1] He started practice in Delhi High Court as well as in the Supreme Court of India. He also worked as Central Government advocate in Bhopal Gas Leak Disaster case. Singh became an Additional Judge in Madhya Pradesh High Court on 22 October 2001. In 2004 he was transferred to Punjab and Haryana High Court. Thereafter Singh was appointed a Judge of Allahabad High Court on 30 June 2009. He took oath as acting Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court on 27 August 2014. On 19 March 2015 Justice Singh became the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. [2] After the retirement he was appointed Lokayukta of the state of Nagaland for few days. [3] [4]

The Sikkim High Court is the High Court of the Indian state of Sikkim. The history of the court can be traced back to 1955, when the High Court of Judicature Proclamation, 1955 was issued to establish a High Court in Sikkim. Upon merger, Sikkim became the 22nd State of India. Under Clause (i) of Article 371F, the High Court functioning immediately prior to the date of merger became the High Court for the State of Sikkim under the Constitution like any other High Court in the country. It was established in 1975.

The Lokayukta is the Indian Parliamentary Ombudsman, executed into power, through and for, each of the State Governments of India. It is brought into effect in a state after passing the Lokayukta Act in the respective state legislature, and a person of reputable background is nominated for the post. The post was created to quickly address the working of the government or its administration. Once appointed, Lokayukta cannot be dismissed or transferred by the government, and can only be removed by passing an impeachment motion by the state assembly.

Nagaland Lokayukta is the Parliamentary Ombudsman for the state of Nagaland (India). It is a high level statutory functionary, created to address grievances of the public against ministers, legislators, administration and public servants in issues related to misuse of power, mal-administration and corruption. It was first formed under the Nagaland Lokayukta and Deputy Lokayukta Act-2014 and approved by the president of India. The passage of Lokpal and Lokayukta's Act,2013 in Parliament had become law from January 16, 2014 and requires each state to appoint its Lokayukta within a year. A bench of Lokayukta should consist of judicial and non-judicial members. An Upa-Lokayukta is a deputy to Lokayukta and assists him in his work and acts in-charge Lokayukta in case the position fells vacant before time.
