Umar Rana (born 28 May 1975) is a Pakistani stand-up comedian based in Singapore. [1]

Biography

Umar began his comedy career performing improv. He was a founding member of Pakistan’s first English-speaking improv troupe, Black Fish, which represented Pakistan in an international theatre festival in Manchester, England. He later moved to Bahrain because of a new job posting and, in January 2007, moved to Singapore.

After performing in many improv shows and stand-up comedy events, in September 2010 Umar founded Comedy Masala. Comedy Masala offers a weekly open mic in Singapore and brings in comedians from across Asia. Umar has also hosted many events, including Rob Schneider's stand-up comedy performance in Singapore. Umar was also the second runner-up at the 2009 HK International Comedy Festival.

Comedy Masala

Comedy Masala is a venue for stand-up comedy located at Hero's, Circular Road, Singapore. Founded in September 2010 by Umar Rana, Comedy Masala offers a weekly stand-up comedy show featuring a mix of Singaporean and international comedians that attracts close to 200 fans every week and has hosted well-known comedians from around the world, including Butch Bradley, Wali Collins, Al Ducharme and Paul Ogata. Comedy Masala is one of the only venues that offers an open mic format in Singapore.

Rob Schneider American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and director

Robert Michael Schneider is an American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and director. A stand-up comic and veteran of the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, he went on to a career in feature films, including starring roles in the comedy films Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Hot Chick, The Benchwarmers, and Grown Ups. Schneider is the father of singer Elle King.

Theatre Strike Force

Theatre Strike Force is the University of Florida's premier improv and sketch comedy troupe. The group also goes by TSF. The style of improv performed by Theatre Strike Force is a combination long form and short form. They both teach and perform improvisational comedy. They have six house teams which include both forms of improv as well as a sketch team. There are four long form house teams which are cast every semester and usually have six to eight members. The TSF Short Form Team is cast every semester as well and usually has fifteen to nineteen members. TSF Sketch is the final house team and usually has twelve to sixteen members, cast each semester.

The Cologne Comedy Festival is an international comedy festival held in Cologne, Germany every year since 1991. It was founded by Achim Rohde in 1990 in Kleve, Germany. The festival initially started by importing comedians from around the world. During the 1990s, stand-up comedy became popular with young German audiences, who had experienced humor whilst living outside Germany. This led to home-grown comedy acts, which in turn led to the growth of the festival, to its present point, where many of the brightest stars of German and international comedy perform to sold-out houses in over 20 venues, ranging from small clubs to large theatres.
