Unanimated are a Swedish melodic death metal band.
The band formed in Stockholm and dissolved in 1996. They have 7 current complete members. Largely inspired by Dismember, they made two melodic death metal albums. In 1993, In the Forest of the Dreaming Dead was released on Pavement Music, a label which has since merged with Crash Music Inc. The album was one of the first melodic death metal albums of all time. In 1995 Ancient God of Evil was released on No Fashion Records, an independent Swedish label. The band also contributed to the 1996 Slayer tribute Slatanic Slaughter II with their cover of "Dead Skin Mask". Their music exemplifies the melodic Swedish sound and though primarily death metal, a black metal influence stands out. Former members have gone on to contribute to various other projects, most notably Therion, Entombed, and Dismember. In 2007, they reformed, and in April 2008, signed to Regain Records. The band has released a new album, titled "In The Light Of Darkness", in April 2009. In 2011, after 20 years, drummer Peter Stjärnvind decided to part ways with the band. He was then replaced with Unleashed drummer Anders Schultz. In 2012, they announced that they were working on new material for a new album. In 2018, they announced on their Facebook page that they had signed a 3 album worldwide deal with Century Media records and that a new album would be released in the year.
Dismember is a Swedish death metal band formed in 1988. They split up in 2011 but reunited in 2019. Pioneers of Swedish death metal, Dismember is now considered one of the country's "big four", alongside Entombed, Grave, and Unleashed.

Mortification is an Australian Christian death metal band which was formed in 1987 as a heavy metal group, Lightforce, by mainstay Steve Rowe on bass guitar and vocals. By 1990, in the Melbourne suburb of Moorabbin, they were renamed as Mortification with the line-up of Rowe, Michael Carlisle on guitar and Jayson Sherlock on drums. Mortification has released fourteen studio albums, three compilation albums, three extended plays, six live discs, one demo album, one box set, and several videos on major record labels such as Nuclear Blast. As one of the earliest internationally successful Christian death metal bands from Australia, they served as an inspiration for later similar groups.
Grave is a Swedish death metal band that was formed in 1988 by vocalist and guitarist Ola Lindgren who is their only constant member. The band had particular success in the early 1990s, and their first four albums, Into the Grave, You'll Never See..., Soulless and Hating Life, cemented their reputation as one of Sweden's foremost death metal bands. Grave went on hiatus in 1997, but got back together two years later. Since then, they have released seven more albums, making a total of eleven studio albums. Along with Dismember, Entombed and Unleashed, Grave is considered one of the "big four" of Swedish death metal.
Runemagick is a Swedish death/doom band formed in 1990. The band was started by Nicklas "Terror" Rudolfsson under the name Desiderius, which was quickly changed to Runemagic. First, the band consisted solely of Rudolfsson, but he was later joined by Robert "Reaper" Pehrsson. They started out as a pure death metal band but later incorporated doom metal influences, inspired by the likes of Bathory, Treblinka/Tiamat, Celtic Frost, Nihilist/Entombed, and Candlemass.

Unleashed is a Swedish death metal band that was formed in 1989 by Johnny Hedlund in Stockholm. Common lyrical themes found in the band's music include Viking culture, recollection of a pre-Christian world, and Norse folklore. A number of their recent songs also contain references to J. R. R. Tolkien. Unleashed is considered one of the "big four" of Swedish death metal.
Carnage was a Swedish death metal band formed in 1988 by Michael Amott and Johan Liiva. The members of the group would later form Dismember and Arch Enemy. They released only one album before disbanding in 1991.
God Macabre is a Swedish death metal band. They were formed in the winter of 1988 as a grindcore band named Botten På Burken. In 1989 they switched to playing death metal and changed their name to Macabre End. Jonas Stålhammar joined the band in the spring of 1990 and took over most of the songwriting (music). They released a demo in September 1990 titled Consumed by Darkness. Thereafter they changed their name once again to God Macabre. In 1992 the band split up, after Johansson and Nilsson had left the band in 1991, and no suitable replacements could be found. Boder and Sjöberg formed the band Snake Machine which evolved into Space Probe Taurus. After the split-up the only album recorded was released - The Winterlong.... The album was re-issued in 2002 with the demo as bonus tracks by Relapse Records. In March 2008 the Relapse version of the album was also released on vinyl for the first time by the Swedish label Bloodharvest Records. May 2014 saw a second re-release of The Winterlong... this time by Relapse Records with the added bonus track "Life's Verge", an old song from 1991 that was not recorded until 2013.
Acheron was an American death/black metal band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that was formed by Vincent Crowley in 1988. The band is named after the mythological river Acheron located in the underground kingdom of Hades in ancient Greek mythology. They are not to be confused with 1990s Australian death metal band Acheron, nor the 1980s/1990s American power metal band Acheron, nor any of several lesser known European thrash and death metal bands with similar names between the 1980s and the present.

Into Eternity, their Metal Blade debut following a lesser-known EP release, is standard for the genre, energetic and forceful, straddling the line between the more brutal American death style and the melodic Gothenburg variety.

The group formed in 1993, released three full-length albums for No Fashion Records through several lineup changes, and received significant exposure among metal press outlets before disbanding in August 2006. In January 2013 the band reunited.
