United Jharkhand Party, a political party in India, founded on 1948 by Justin Richard, leader of Adivasi Mahasabha Jaipal Singh joined the UJP. Singh would later launch the Jharkhand Party [1] .

Another party with the same name appeared in Indian politics in 1991.

An election was held in 1969 to elect members to the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Bihar. After the elections, the Congress emerged as the largest party, and Harihar Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar. Three parties contested in a 'Triple Alliance'; the Loktantrik Congress Dal, the Praja Socialist Party and the Samyukta Socialist Party. The Triple Alliance divided 295 out of 318 constituencies between them, assigning 23 seats to the Communist Party of India.

Surya Singh Besra is a political activist and prominent political leader. He is the founder secretary of All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and Jharkhand People's Party (JPP). He is a prominent leader in movement for separate state of Jharkhand. He had also represented Ghatshila constituency as IND MLA in 1990.
