The United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan is based in New Delhi, India. It is one of 63 United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) located worldwide. [2]

These centres work globally under the direction of the Department of Public Information (DPI) of the United Nations Secretariat. Their objective is to keep the United Nations (UN) closer to the people of the world by delivering its messages in people's national and regional languages. The United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan plays an important role in the development of media outreach by to maintaining, broadcasting, and communicating information from the United Nations to India and Bhutan. Scope

The Centre's main purpose is to reach out to media and educational groups. It engages in associations with government, local civil society organizations and the private sector. It maintains off-line resources such as libraries, and also looks after digital information resources. To make communication easier and more usable, it translates information in the local languages of India including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. It also participates in observances of international days, years and decades by memorable events such as honouring presentations on national and local notable persons, educational seminars, sports, music and drawing competitions. UNIC Director

Derk Segaar is the current Director of United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan. Appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, he had worked for the United Nations for over ten years[ when? ] in the field of humanitarian affairs and peacekeeping, at the headquarters in New York City and other regions.

The Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights is a document signed by the International PEN Club, and several non-governmental organizations in 1996 to support linguistic rights, especially those of endangered languages. The document was adopted at the conclusion of the World Conference on Linguistic Rights held 6–9 June 1996 in Barcelona, Spain. It was also presented to the UNESCO Director General in 1996 but the Declaration has not gained formal approval from UNESCO.

Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme was an initiative of UNDP and "aims to promote the development and application of information and communication technologies for sustainable human development". Its sphere of work was the Asia-Pacific region. APDIP was based within the UN premises in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

United Nations Regional Information Centre organization

The United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) is one of 63 United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) around the world. Their main task is to spread the UN message, raise awareness and create understanding of issues relating to the United Nations' objectives. UNRIC serves the Western European Region by providing and disseminating UN information material, UN reports and documents, press kits, posters, fact sheets and brochures. The intention is to reach out to all segments of society and therefore the UNRIC Reference Library is open to all inquiries about the UN via telephone, e-mail and post. United Nations Information Centres (UNIC) is an organization which was established in the year 1946. Its headquarters is in New York, USA, and it currently works worldwide in 63 countries. These centres are managed by the United Nations to exchange & provide current happenings to the world. They are directed by the Department of Public Information of the UN Secretariat to communicate problems related to the Organization. All development projects are reviewed and approved by DPI.
