The University of Georgia College of Environment and Design (CED) is a college within the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia, United States.
Landscape Architecture has been taught at UGA since 1928. The former School of Environmental Design (SED) transitioned to become the College of Environment and Design (CED) in 2001. It was the first new college at UGA since 1969. The CED provides nationally accredited, inventive, and demanding programs in landscape architecture, historic preservation, environmental planning & design, and environmental ethics, and has been consistently rated as one of the top landscape architecture schools in the United States. [1] [2] The school was named the #1 Landscape Architecture program for undergraduates in the nation, as well as #3 for post-grad studies in the list of top 15 Landscape Architecture Schools for 2006. [2] [3] On July 1, 2007, the Institute of Ecology separated from the College after joining with the former SED in 2001, becoming the Odum School of Ecology, the first stand-alone academic school of Ecology in the United States. CED contains the Owens Library, as well as the Circle Gallery. The library's Hubert Bond Owens and John Linley Image Collections contain photographic records of numerous Georgia architectural sites and landscapes ranging in date from the 1940s to the 1980s. City planning guidelines from 1989 or later for various Georgia municipalities are also part of the library's collections. [6] [7]

Katherine Ruth Bridges is an American landscape architect. In 2014 she is a landscape architect for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. She has been the principal landscape architect or contributed to the design of over 50 parks in the New York City area. Her work includes the Blue Heron Park Preserve in Staten Island, New York, a large nature refuge that is part of Staten Island's "Blue Belt." Bridges' designs include elements of a site's natural systems, enhancement of wildlife habitats, and also its history.

Clermont Huger Lee was a landscape architect from Savannah, Georgia, most known for her work designing gardens and parks for historical landmarks in the state. Specifically, Lee is known for her designs such as the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, Isaiah Davenport House and Owens-Thomas House. Lee assisted in founding of the Georgia State Board of Landscape Architects which serves as a licensing board for landscape architects throughout Georgia. She is considered one of the first women to establish their own private architecture practice in Georgia and was inducted into the Georgia Women of Achievement in 2017 and Savannah College of Art and Design's Savannah Women of Vision on February 14, 2020. SCAD honors Lee with a gold relief in its Arnold hall.
Sonia Anguelova Hirt is a professor of Landscape Architecture and Planning and dean in the College of Environment + Design at the University of Georgia.
