The University of Port Harcourt Library also known as Donald E. U. Ekong Library is the academic and research hub of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The library houses information resources that support the teaching, learning and research of the members of the university community.

The present building of the library consist two wings: Wing A houses two-storey buildings while Wing B houses three-storey buildings. [2]
Donald E.U. Ekong Library has over 3000 volumes of books and periodicals. The library also has over 400 journals with a despository section for the United Nations Publications. [5]
Other services include laptop loan services by the American Corner section of the University Library. [6] [7] The library also offers book check in and check out services for its registered users.

The National Library of Nigeria came into operation in the mid-1960s with the enactment of the National Library Act of 1964 which was later replaced by Act No. 29 of 1970. Before the passage of the National Library Act, a series of educational conferences conducted in Ibadan served as the intellectual basis for the creation of a network of libraries funded by the federal government to provide accessibility of educational materials to Nigerians. A government advisory committee was later created concerning the necessity to develop a local repository of knowledge. The committee was charged with finding a way to aid the government in bringing to prominence the intellectual foundations of its policies, creating a national bibliographic center, and providing an arena for the promotion of knowledge. The committee was the first major formal body that called for a National Library as part of its recommendations. The government accepted the demands of the advisory committee and undertook the necessary steps to build a National Library.
Rumuokoro is a town in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State, Nigeria. It is the meeting point of five major roads in Nigerian economy and the gateway to and from the city of Port Harcourt. The word, 'Rumuo' in Rumuokoro was believed to be coined by the Ikwere ethnic group of Rivers State.

The Aluu Four lynching was a necklace lynching that involved students of the Department of Geology in the University of Port Harcourt. Their names were; Ugonna Obuzor, Lloyd Toku, Chiadika Biringa, and Tekena Elkanah. They were all lynched after being accused of theft in Aluu, a community in Obio/Akpor local government area, Rivers State, Nigeria on 5 October 2012.

Its headquarters is in Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory. It was established in 1962 in Ibadan. It was birth from West African Library Association (WALA). The NLA provides a forum for cooperation, knowledge sharing, and advocacy for the advancement of libraries and information services across the nation among librarians, information scientists, library professionals, and associated stakeholders. Donald Efiong Udo Ekong was a Nigerian professor of Chemistry and the founding Vice Chancellor of the University of the Gambia and was also the vice Chancellor of the university of Port Harcourt of from the year 1977 - 1982.There is a library named after him at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria in the honour of his extensive work for the country, both in teaching and research as well as in university management and development of higher education.
