The University of Port Harcourt is a public research university located in Aluu and Choba, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. It was established in 1975 [5] as University College, Port Harcourt and was given university status in 1977. [1] The University of Port Harcourt was ranked the sixth in Africa and the first in Nigeria by Times Higher Education in 2015. [6] In July 2021, Owunari Georgewill was appointed substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university. [7]

The objective of the library is derived from those of its parent institution, the University of Port Harcourt. It exists to provide books, non-book/electronic resources and ancillary services which are invaluable in extending and supporting the university’s programmes of teaching, learning and Research. [27]
In 1981, an affiliation protocol was approved between The University of Port Harcourt and the then College of Education, Uyo in the old Cross River State. That protocol produced graduates in Education in 1985 (see 6th Convocation brochure) and 1986. The affiliation was terminated by the upgrade of the College of Education, Uyo to a State University in 1983 by the Administration of Dr Clement Isong. That University was named University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Uyo. When it was taken over by the Federal Government in 1991, it became what is today known as the University of Uyo (UNIUYO). Ever since, Uniport has nurtured programmes in other affiliate institutions.

The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal and public research university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the Governor General of Nigeria between 1960 and 1963, and first President of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. The University of Nigeria Nsukka was formally opened on 7 October 1960, as one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in Nigeria and Africa. E. Nolue Emenanjo was a Nigerian academic scholar, professor, writer and critic who is regarded as a central figure of Igbo literature. His book, A Grammar of Contemporary Igbo: Constituents, Features and Processes (2015), strongly added input to research of Igbo literature and culture. Along with his publications, his Igbo Language and Culture (1975) and Elements of Modern Igbo Grammar (1978). Later books include Auxiliaries in Igbo Syntax (1985) and Multilingualism, Minority Languages, and Language Policy in Nigeria (1990). In the 21st century, Emenanjo is often referred to as the "father of Igbo literature", alongside Tony Ubesie and others.

University of Cross River State also known as UNICROSS is a state-owned tertiary institution with four campuses spread across four Local Government Areas of the state. The University was formerly known as the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). It was renamed in February of 2021 by a bill passed at Cross River State House of Assembly which was then approved by the former Governor of the State, Benedict Ayade. The change of the tertiary institution's name was to enable the varsity function as a conventional University, which provides the opportunity to offer more professional courses rather focusing on tech-related courses. The present Vice Chancellor of the institution is Prof. DAVID ABUA OGAR.
