Port Harcourt is the capital and largest city of Rivers State in Nigeria. It is the fifth most populous city in Nigeria after Lagos, Kano, Ibadan and Benin. It lies along the Bonny River and is located in the oil rich Niger Delta. As of 2023, Port Harcourt's urban population is estimated at 3,480,000. The population of the metropolitan area of Port Harcourt is almost twice its urban area population with a 2015 United Nations estimate of 2,344,000. In 1950, the population of Port Harcourt was 59,752. Port Harcourt has grown by 150,844 since 2015, which represents a 4.99% annual change.
Enyimba Football Club or simply known as Enyimba, is a Nigerian professional football club based in the city of Aba, Abia State which plays in the Nigerian Professional Football League. Their name means People's Elephant in Igbo language and is also the nickname used for the city of Aba. Founded in 1976, the club rose to prominence in the 2000s and is considered the most successful Nigerian football club as they won two African Champions League titles, nine Nigerian championships and four Federation Cups since 2001. Their most-recent league glory came in the 2022–23 season.

Sharks F.C. is a former Nigerian football club based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. They played in the top division in Nigerian football, the Nigerian Premier League. Their home stadium was Sharks Stadium although they played some of their bigger games at Liberation Stadium, which could accommodate a little over three times the spectators compared to Sharks Stadium. In 2016, the club was officially merged with city rivals Dolphins F.C. and the two teams collectively became known as Rivers United F.C.

It used to be the home stadium of Sharks F.C. before that club merged with Dolphins F.C. in 2016 to form Rivers United F.C. The stadium has a capacity of 5,000 people.

Adokiye Amiesimaka is a Nigerian footballer, who as a law student at the University of Lagos played for the Enugu Rangers Football Club, Sharks Football Club, African Continental Bank Football Club, Lagos, and the Nigeria national football team. Playing as a winger on the left of midfield, Adokiye’s pace and dribbling runs were a distinguishing feature of his footballing career.

Rivers United Football Club is a Nigerian professional football club based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that participates in the Nigerian Professional Football League, the highest level of domestic Nigerian football. The club was formed by the merger of Sharks F.C. and Dolphins F.C. in 2016. Their home stadium was the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, formerly Liberation Stadium, in Elekahia that has a seating capacity of 30,000. They moved to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium stadium in 2020. The stadium, renovated in 2020, has a capacity of 40,000. There is also a female team, Rivers Angels F.C., which is one of the best in Nigeria and Africa.
Government Comprehensive Secondary School (GCSS) is the premier comprehensive secondary school in Nigeria. It is located in the Borokiri neighbourhood of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Nigeria. The school was established through the collaboration of the United States Government of John F. Kennedy represented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the then government of Eastern Region, Nigeria in 1962. Its foundation teaching staff were professors of the University of California, Los Angeles, led by Professor Lynne C. Monroe. Monroe was principal of the school from inception until June 1964 when he returned to UCLA.
Greater Port Harcourt is a metropolitan area currently under construction in Rivers State, Nigeria. It comprises the local government areas of Port Harcourt, Oyigbo, Okrika, Ogu–Bolo, Obio-Akpor, Ikwerre, Etche and Eleme. The 2019 Nigeria Women Premier League began July 24, 2019. The league was earlier scheduled to start in February, but due to logistic reasons and commencement of other competitions, it was postponed to March, May then later July. Prior to the start of the league, a congress was held in Abuja on June 27, with representatives from Nigeria Football Federation. Due to failure of some teams to pay their indemnities, the agreed date at the congress was shifted from July 17 to July 24.
The 2019–2020 Nigeria Professional Football League was the 49th season of the top-flight division of the Nigerian football league system and the 30th season since its rebranding as the 'Professional League'. The league started on 3 November 2019 but was cancelled in July due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic with no champions and no teams relegated. The 2020–21 CAF Confederation Cup qualifying rounds were played from 27 November 2020 to 21 February 2021. A total of 67 teams are competing in the qualifying rounds to decide the 16 places in the group stage of the 2020–21 CAF Confederation Cup.
The 2021–22 CAF Champions League qualifying rounds were played from 10 September to 24 October 2021. A total of 54 teams competed in the qualifying rounds to decide the 16 places in the group stage of the 2021–22 CAF Champions League.
