Bells University of Technology (BUT), also known as Bellstech, is the first private university of technology established in Nigeria. [1] It was established in 2004, and began admitting students from the 2005/2006 academic session. It is located in Ogun State of Nigeria. [2] [3] [4]

History

Bells was established in 2004 by The Bells Educational Foundation, which already ran nursery, primary and secondary schools. The Bells Educational Foundation is owned by Olusegun Obasanjo, former-President of Nigeria. [5] [6]

Colleges and departments

Bells is made up of seven colleges and thirty-five departments. Due to restructuring some colleges were merged and since 1 August 2016, it has three colleges: College of Engineering & Environmental Sciences, College of Natural & Applied Sciences and College of Management Sciences. [7]

In 2024, Bells University gained accreditation from NUC for 13 courses [8] [9]

Convocation

In October 2023, the school graduate new set of students. And it marked the school's 15th convocation ceremony. [10]

Partnership

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) partners with bells university of technology to build a weather station in the school. [11]

Conference center

In August 2021, the conference center was commissioned in the school. [12]

Inauguration of building

On 22 April 2024, there was inauguration of new building which is for the college of post graduate.The building was inaugurated by the former president Olusegun Obasanjo. [13]

Ranking

Bell University is ranked 60th among the private university in Nigeria. [14]

The university graduates first class, second class and third class students. The university also has a postgraduate program and part-time program that runs on Fridays and Saturdays.

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo also known as FCE OYO was established on 5 October 1977, as Federal Advanced Teacher's college (Special). The institution, according to a UNDP/UNESCO 1996 report (NIR/87/008) "... Has the best qualify Staff in Special Education not only in Nigeria but in West, North, East and Central Africa." The College is the only one of its kind in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. It has the largest conglomeration of disabled students that could be found in any Higher Institution in Nigeria and the largest concentration of specialized facilities for teaching and training of teachers of the Handicapped in Nigeria. During its 40th anniversary celebration, the college gave special recognition award to former President Olusegun Obasanjo whose military administration brought about the upgrading of the Institution from the then Federal Advanced Teachers College to a College of Education with the mandate to award the National Certificate of Education (NCE) in 1977.

KolaDaisi University also known as KDU, is a private University in Ibadan, Oyo State. The university was founded by Chief KolaDaisi, CON, Bashorun of Ibadan as its Proprietor. It is associated with the KolaDaisi Foundation (KDF). KolaDaisi University (KDU), after approval by the Federal Executive Council, was licensed by the National Universities Commission to operate as a private university in November 2016.
