Sa'adu Zungur University Gadau (SAZUG) (formerly Bauchi State University Gadau) [1] [2] is a state-owned university located in Bauchi State, Nigeria. Its main campus is in Gadau, with other campuses in Misau and Bauchi.
After becoming independent in 1960, Nigeria had only one university at Ibadan, which was an affiliate of the University of London. [3] The Ashby Commission, set up in 1959 to advise the Government on the need for tertiary education recommended the establishment of what is today referred to as 'First Generation Universities': the University of Ibadan, University of Ife, University of Lagos, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. By the 1970s, the projections of the Ashby Commission report were found to be unrealistic, particularly on student enrollment and course offerings, motivating the establishment of the so-called 'Second Generation Universities'. By the early 1980s, the Federal Government had attempted to establish a university in each of the then 19 States. The continued demand for tertiary education led to the liberalization of the federal monopoly on establishing universities, allowing the States to establish their universities.
In 2007, the former State Governor Ahmad Adamu Muazu created a Planning and Implementation Committee. In October 2008, Governor Isa Yuguda initiated another committee to resume the effort.[ citation needed ] In June 2009, an Implementation Committee proceeded, building on the previous committees' work. After the committee reviewed the acquisition and improvement of the campus sites at Gadau (Azare), Misau, and Bauchi, the Government awarded several contracts for the renovation of the campuses. The Government then engaged a Lagos-based firm to produce the Bauchi State University Academic Brief, a Master Plan, and a Strategic Plan to cover its 25-year development plan. The law establishing the university was passed by the Bauchi State House of Assembly and approved by Governor Isa Yuguda on 31 December, 2010.

Bauchi is a city in northeast Nigeria, the Administrative center of Bauchi State, of the Bauchi Local Government Area within that State, and of the traditional Bauchi Emirate. It is located on the northern edge of the Jos Plateau, at an elevation of 616 m. The Local Government Area covers an area of 3,687 km2 and had a population of 493,810 in 2006.
Bauchi State is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Jigawa to the north, Yobe to the northeast, Gombe to the east, Taraba and Plateau to the south, Kaduna to the west and Kano to the northwest. It takes its name from the historic town of Bauchi, which also serves as its capital city. The state was formed in 1976 when the former North-Eastern State was broken up. It originally included the area that is now Gombe State, which became a distinct state in 1996.
Katagum is a town, a local government area and a traditional emirate in Bauchi State of north eastern Nigeria. The town is located on the northern bank of the Jama'are River, which is a tributary of the Hadejia. Most of the inhabitants are peoples from the Fulani, Kanuri, Karai-karai and Hausa tribes. The chief agricultural products include peanuts (groundnuts), sorghum, millet, rice, cowpeas, cotton, indigo, and gum arabic. Livestock include horses, cattle, goats, sheep, donkeys and a lot of poultry.
Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti is a state government owned and operated Nigerian university, located in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. It was established as Obafemi Awolowo University, Ado-Ekiti on 30 March 1982 by the administration of Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin, the first civilian governor of Ondo State. The university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
Olusegun Kokumo Agagu ; 16 February 1948 – 13 September 2013) was a Nigerian politician who was governor of Ondo State in Nigeria from 29 May 2003 until February 2009, when a court voided his re-election as governor on account of electoral irregularities. He was replaced as governor by Olusegun Mimiko, his political rival, based on a court injunction. He was a member of the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) is a federal university of technology located in Bauchi, north eastern part of Nigeria. The university is named after the first and only Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. The motto of the university is "Doctrina Mater Artium", which means "Education is the mother of the practical arts".

Azare is a town in Bauchi State, Nigeria. It was founded by Mallam Zaki, who was put into office by Shehu Usman Danfodio in early 1814. Azare is the headquarters of the Katagum division in Bauchi State. It is bordered to the east by Damban LGA and Potiskum Yobe State, to the south by Misau Local Government, to the west by Jama'are Local Government, and to the north by Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Aminu Saleh was a Nigerian administrator, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, former Finance Minister of Nigeria, and permanent secretary in the Nigerian ministry of Defense. He became the chairman of the National Qu'ranic Recitation Committee in 2006.
Mallam Isa Yuguda is the former Governor of Bauchi State, Nigeria. He was first elected in April 2007, on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform. In April 2009, he changed allegiance from the ANPP to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Yaguda was reelected governor on 28 April 2011.
Itas/Gadau is a Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Itas Itesiwaju. The town of Gadau is in the east of the area at 11°50′08″N10°10′02″E.
Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is Nigerian politician who has served as governor of Bauchi State since 2019. Prior to becoming governor of Bauchi State, he was minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2010 to 2015, and Senator for Bauchi South from 2007 to 2010. He is a ranking member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Kaduna State University is located in Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria. It was established in 2004. It has seven faculties with over 39 departments and a library that contains over 17,000 volumes of books. It has two campuses: Kafanchan and Kaduna.
Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019.
Adewale Oke Adekola was a Nigerian engineer, academic, author, and administrator. He was the first Nigerian dean of engineering and head of civil engineering at the University of Lagos. He was the founding vice chancellor of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi and emeritus professor of the University of Lagos. He was a pioneer of engineering education in Nigeria and reputed as a great teacher. He became one of the first Nigerians to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) in 1976 - awarded by London University in engineering.
Ibrahim Makama Misau is a Nigerian politician. He is a retired and experienced senior Police office; he retired as Superintendent of Police [SP] where he served in many capacities with a high level of responsibilities at home and international assignment.
Musa Babayo is a Nigerian banker, businessman, politician, and elder states-man who was the National Secretary of the PDP National Working Committee from 2012 to 2015 prior to joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) on 15 October 2015. He was the Deputy National Secretary of the party from 2008 to 2011 before later becoming the National Secretary.
The Aminu Saleh College of Education is a state government higher education institution located in Azare, Bauchi State, Nigeria. It is affiliated to University of Maiduguri for its degree programmes. The current Provost is Abdullahi Mohammed Isyaku.
Ahmadu Bello UniversityZaria is a federal government research university located in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria, opened in 1962 as the University of Northern Nigeria. It was founded by and is now named for Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria.
