Babcock University is a private Christian co-educational Nigerian university owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria. The university is located at Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria, equidistant between Ibadan and Lagos.

In 2017, the university had its first set of graduates from the Ben Carson School of Medicine. [2] [3]

It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, which is the world's second largest Christian school system. [4] [5] [6] [7]

History

Babcock University was named after an American missionary by the name of David C. Babcock, who pioneered the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria in 1914. He was based in Erunmu in Oyo State, Nigeria.

The university was established as the Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA) in 1959, initially with seven students; who were hosted at the home of Chief Olufemi Okulaja. In 1975, it changed its name to Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA). The university was officially inaugurated on 20 April 1999. [8]

Academic divisions

From the initial four schools, Babcock University has added a postgraduate school in the third quarter of 2010, and a medical school in January 2012. The latest additions are the Music and Educational Foundations departments to the Joel Awoniyi School of Education & Humanities. As at 2013, Babcock hosts eight schools and two colleges. The university is a member of the Inter-University Council for East Africa, The Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Association of African Universities.

Bolivia Adventist University, or UAB, is a private coeducational Christian university in the city of Cochabamba. The university is affiliated to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and offers degrees in six major fields: Theology, Health Sciences, Nursing, Education, Economic and Administrative Sciences, and Engineering. UAB is the only Adventist university in Bolivia, but is one of ten such establishments in South America. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.

Day of Destiny also known as D.O.D is a 2021 Nigerian sci-fi adventure film written and co-directed by Akay Mason and Abosi Ogba. Abosi Ogba made his directorial debut in this film. The film stars Olumide Oworu, Denola Grey, Norbert Young and Toyin Abraham in the lead roles. The film is based on the mysterious adventures of two teenage brothers who travel back in time by 20 years to change the fortunes of the family. It is also the first Nigerian family adventure film as well as Nigeria's first-ever time traveller film and was also the first Nigerian film to be released in 2021.

Shola Akinlade is a Nigerian software engineer and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and CEO of Paystack, the company that he founded with Ezra Olubi. Paystack was acquired by Stripe in 2020 for $200m.
