The Botswana Accountancy College, or BAC, is a business school headquartered in the city of Gaborone, Botswana. Initially funded and established through a joint venture between Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and Debswana, the college caters for the accountancy and information technology tertiary needs of the country. [1] The Botswana Accountancy College asserts itself as the center of excellence in Southern Africa and beyond. It specializes in areas of accounting, finance, business, management, hospitality, taxation, leisure and ICT. BAC has two campuses; the main campus is in Gaborone and the other in Francistown.The Gaborone Campus is located in the Fairgrounds Office Park of south-east Gaborone. [2]

History

The college was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), The Debswana Diamond Company and the Botswana Institute of Accountants, enrolling 349 ACCA, CIMA, AAT and NCC diploma students. Botswana Accountancy College also offers undergraduate programs that are accredited by the University of Derby. [4] The objectives of the college were to reduce the reliance on expatriate accountants and in the long term to be a self-funding project. BAC is a company limited by guarantee with three sponsors as the shareholders. The MFDP and Debswana funded BAC until 2007. The Gaborone Campus is located in the Fairgrounds Office Park of south-east Gaborone. [5]

BAC can accommodate 112 residential students at the main campus in Gaborone. There are three residential blocks to accommodate students, named after Botswana's revolutionary leaders; Khama, Bathoen I, and Sechele. [7]

Botho University is Botswana's largest private tertiary educational provider, founded in 1997. The college offers certificates, diplomas and graduate degrees in accountancy and computer science. It is the first private tertiary institution in the country to be accredited by the Tertiary Education Council (TEC). All of its programs are also accredited by the Botswana Qualification Authority (BQA). It has trained 16,000 graduates, and enrolls 4,000 students, supported by 150 academic staff.

Lynette Armstrong is a Botswana accountant and corporate executive, who was appointed as the acting chief executive officer of Debswana Diamond Company Limited, the largest diamond-mining company in the world, by value. She was appointed to that position in August 2019. Before that, from December 2015 until August 2019, Armstrong was the chief financial officer (CFO) at the same company. She relinquished he CEO/Managing Director role on 1 June 2022 when Andrew Maatla Motsomi became the new substantive CEO. Ms Armstrong resumed her role of CFO at Debswana.

Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) formally known as Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA) is an agricultural University located in Gaborone, Botswana.

Goabaone Taylor is a Motswana accountant and sports administrator who served as the chief executive officer of Botswana Football Association between April and December 2021. She occupied this position with effect from 1 April 2021 making her the first female to occupy this position since the inception of the organisation in 1966.
