Al-Hikmah University is an Islamic university located in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was founded in 2005 by AbdulRaheem Oladimeji Islamic Foundation (AROIF) based in Nigeria and World Assembly of Muslim Youths (WAMY) based in Jeddah. [1] Muhammed Taofeek Olalekan Ibrahim [2] is the immediate past Vice-chancellor. He was succeeded by Noah Yusuf [1] who is now the current Vice-chancellor. The goal of Al-Hikmah University is to be a center of intellectual and moral excellence.

The University came into existence via the granting of an operating license to run as a Conventional Private University by the Federal Government of Nigeria License No. 010 on 7 January 2005. It commenced academic activities during the 2005–2006 academic session with 70 students spread across the three take-off colleges: Humanities, Management Sciences and Natural Sciences.

Collaborations

Al-Hikmah University has collaborated with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to counter act drug abuse especially amongst youth. Also with the Economic and Financial crime commission Agency. [6]

Ali ibn Sahl Rabban al-Tabari, was a Persian Muslim scholar, physician and psychologist, who produced one of the first Islamic encyclopedia of medicine titled Firdaws al-Hikmah. Ali ibn Sahl spoke Syriac and Greek, the two sources of the medical tradition of Antiquity which had been lost by medieval Europe, and transcribed in meticulous calligraphy. Ilorin is the capital city of Kwara State located in the Western region of Nigeria. As of the 2006 census, it had a population of 777,667, making it the 7th largest city by population in Nigeria. Surrounding the historic central district with its traditional single-story red-mud houses with thatched straw roofs and numerous mosques, all protected by a mud wall, the modern city is an industrial, commercial, and educational centre.

Offa is a city in Kwara State of Nigeria, with a population of about 166,112 inhabitants. University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, is a federal government-owned university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was established by a decree of the federal military government in August, 1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan, which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower, which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country, the institution has one of the largest land areas, covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023, it was announced by the JAMB Head, Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University, for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), making it for the 10th consecutive year.

Igbaja is a community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria, at an elevation of 349 m. It is about 40 km southeast of Ilorin, and is in Igbomina country. The Ilorin Provincial Gazetteer (1918) dates the settlement of Igbaja as late 17th or early 18th century, while the Igbaja District Gazetteer (1933–35) puts it about 1750 AD.

Kisi is a large town in Oyo State, Nigeria. It is the headquarters of the Irepo Local Government Area. Kishi, is located at the northern part of Oyo State. Kisi is very close to old Katunga which collapsed in the 18th century as a result of Jihad activity by the Hausa/Fulani of Ilorin, Kwara State. Kisi is reputed as a town whose people were never conquered or defeated in battles, hence many people from old Oyo migrated and settled in Kishi during and after the Fulani Jihadist invasion. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem is a professor of chemical engineering and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin in Nigeria from 2017 to 2022.

Abdul Rasheed Na'Allah is a Nigerian academic, he was vice chancellor of Kwara State University in Nigeria for 10 years, from 2009 to 2019 when he was appointed Vice chancellor of University of Abuja. He was appointed vice chancellor on 1 July 2019.

Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari ascended the throne as the 11th Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council since 1995 following the demise of his uncle, Mallam Aliyu AbdulKadir.He voluntarily relinquished his position as the Presiding Justice of Court of Appeal, Lagos Division without any blemish to become the Custodian of the highly revered Shehu Alimi dynasty. He is one of the 10 prominent traditional rulers in northern Nigeria.

Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies Ilorin, was established by the Kwara State Government through an act in 1992. The college is one out of 4 that are affiliated to the Bayero University in Kano, Nigeria.

Umar Bologi is the 7th Etsu Pategi, traditional ruler of Pategi Emirate succeeded late Etsu Alhaji Ibrahim Umaru Chatta and was appointed in April, 2019 by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Abdulkadir Orire was a legal scholar, researcher, community leader, and development activist. He was the first Grand Khadi of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, in Nigeria.

Adenike Temidayo Oladiji is a Nigerian academic and the first female vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure. Her appointment was ratified by the governing council of the institution at its special meeting held on 13 May 2022. She succeeded professor Joseph Fuwape, whose term ended on Monday 23 May 2022. Prior to her appointment, she held various positions and served on University Committees in the University of Ilorin as Chairman and Member.

Razaq Deremi Abubakre is former vice-chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. He is former Vice-Chancellor and Federal Commissioner for the Public Complaints Commission between 2012 and 2018. He was also a former chairman, College of Education, Ila Orangun, Osun State and former Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin. He did his PhD in Arabic literature at the School of Oriental and African Studies, the University of London from 1977 to 1980 on Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. He was National President of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria. He graduated with a first-class degree. He also served as professor of Arabic Language and Literature.

Kayode Egbetokun, is a Nigerian police officer who is the current and 22nd Inspector General of Police. He was appointed by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to replace Usman Alkali Baba.
