Modibbo Adama University, Yola^[1] is a public research university^[2] in Girei, a town in Adamawa State, Northeastern Nigeria. It is one of the four federal technology universities established with the sole purpose of advancing science-based research.^[3] The university is accredited by the National Universities Commission.^[4] The university offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and PhD degrees. The Vice Chancellor is Abdullahi Liman Tukur.^[5]^[6]

In 1984, the University was merged to University of Maiduguri, and it became the Modibbo Adama Campus (MACUM). Federal University of Technology, Yola. Once again, the university was demerged and given complete autonomy in 1988. The university's name was changed to Modibbo Adama University of Technology,(MAUTECH) Yola in 2011 with the approval of the then- current President and Commander in Chief, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, and it became effective on October 1 of that year.^[7] supposedly named after Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan(1809-1847), a great scholar, an erudite educationist, an outstanding leader and the founder of the Fombina Kingdom (The Present Adamawa Emirate). As the first ruler and founder of the Emirate, Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan was one of the disciples and flag bearers of Sheikh Usman Ibn Fodio of the Sokoto Caliphate. The new name took effect from 1 October 2011. Subsequently, President Muhammadu Buhari assented to the Modibbo Adama University Yola establishment bill on 6 January 2021.

The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in seven schools, including the Faculty of Agriculture (FOA), the Faculty of Environmental Science (FES), the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences(FSMS), the Faculty of Physical Sciences (FPS), the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) the Faculty of Engineering (FOE), the Faculty of Education (FED), the College of Medical Sciences, the School of General Studies (SGS) and the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS).^[7]

The university offers degree programs through its centers for distance learning in addition to traditional full-time programs. Additionally, it offers Diploma and Certificate programs in over twenty programs through its Consultancy Services Unit. The university has focused mostly on teaching and research in the fields of science and technology. These have drawn a number of partnerships and collaborations with foreign universities and corporate entities, Government and non- governmental organizations to the university.^[7]

Established in 1981 along with the institution by the then civilian administration of Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, the library did not inherit any material (books or journals) to start with. It began providing services to the university community from its temporary building in April 1983. When the university was merged with the University of Maiduguri in 1984, the library became a college Library under the authority, supervision, and control of Ramat Library, University of Maiduguri. When the University was granted autonomy in 1988, the library became a full-fledged university library.^[8]

The library offers resources in both print and electronic formats, as well as access to online databases, open educational resources, and open access journal.^[9]^[10]

Yola, meaning 'Great Plain' or 'Vast Plain Land', is the capital city and administrative centre of Adamawa State, Nigeria. It is located on the Benue River, and has a population of over 336,648 (2010). Yola is split into two parts. The old town of Yola where the Lamido of Adamawa resides, is the traditional city and the new city of Jimeta is the administrative and commercial centre.

Adamawa State is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Borno to the northwest, Gombe to the west, and Taraba to the southwest while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon. It takes its name from the historic emirate of Adamawa, with the emirate's old capital of Yola serving as the capital city of Adamawa State. The state was formed in 1991 when the former Gongola State was broken up into Adamawa and Taraba states. Adama ɓii Ardo Hassana, more commonly known as Modibbo Adama, was a Fulani scholar from the Yillaga (Yirlaɓe) clan. He led a jihad into the region of Fombina and established the emirate of Fombina, also known as Adamawa.

The Adamawa Emirate is a traditional state located in Fombina, an area which now roughly corresponds to areas of Adamawa State and Taraba state in Nigeria, and previously also in the three northern regions of Cameroon, including minor Parts of Chad and the Central African Republic.

American University of Nigeria The American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a private university in Yola the capital of Adamawa, Nigeria. It offers an American-style liberal arts higher education at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Founded in 2003, AUN, Africa’s first “Development University,” is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Its current faculty numbers 93, its undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 1500 students. It is known as the first American-style university in Sub-Saharan Africa. AUN is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Adamawa State Polytechnic is a tertiary educational institution in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. It was established in 1991 through a merger of the College of Preliminary Studies Yola and the Staff Development Institute, Numan. The new polytechnic provides national diploma programs in computer science, statistics, accountancy, business studies and secretarial studies. The polytechnic, run by the State government, is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education. The institution has become affiliated with the University of Maiduguri for the purpose of running degree programmes.

Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha was turbaned on 18 March 2010 as the traditional ruler, title Lamido of Adamawa in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The ceremony followed by the approval of the state governor Murtala Nyako.

He began his position as a replacement for Prof. Bashir Usman Hanna. Mohammed is one of Nigeria's leading scholars on the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency and counter insurgency. Now on this day been 26 April 2019, a new Vice Chancellor has been announced in person of Professor Abdullahi Liman Tukur, Professor of Geography, from the department of Geography of the institution, after the contestant has been screened by the panel on Vice Chancellor matters on 23 April 2019. Professor Abdullahi Liman Tukur emerged as the winner.

Zubairu, Zubeiru orZubayru bin Adama was a ruler of the Adamawa Emirate founded by his father, Modibo Adama. By the time he came to the throne in 1890, the emirate was threatened by the Germans, French and English. Zubairu attempted "a hopeless, though spirited, rearguard action" against European attrition of the emirate.

Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as AishaBinani, is a Nigerian politician and entrepreneur who was the senator for Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023. On 30 March 2020, she was appointed Gimbiyar Adamawa by the Adamawa Emirate Council.

Modibbo Raji was a 19th-century Fulani Islamic scholar who was part of the community of Usman Dan Fodio, founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, and his brother Abdullahi dan Fodio. After a long career as a teacher, Qadi, Naib and Wazir (vizier) in the Gwandu Emirate under his mentor Abdullahi dan Fodio and his successors, Modibbo Raji emigrated in the 1850s and eventually settled in Adamawa. He is generally regarded as the founder of the Islamic scholarly tradition in Adamawa as well as one of the earliest exponents of the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect in the Sokoto Caliphate. He died c. 1865 and was buried in Yola leaving behind his writings both in Arabic and Fulfulde, and a large scholarly community of his sons, daughters, students and associates.

The Adamawa State College of Education is a state government higher education institution located in Hong, Adamawa State, Nigeria.

Federal Medical Centre, Yola is a federal government of Nigeria medical centre located in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. The current chief medical director is Auwal Abubakar.

Kaletapwa George Farauta is a Nigerian professor and politician, who is the current deputy governor of Adamawa State since 2023. She was the vice chancellor of Adamawa State University, Mubi from 2017 to 2022. She is a former Adamawa State commissioner of education and executive chairman of Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board.

Muhammad Bello "Maigari" bin Ahmadu "Babbawa" (1880–1928) was the 8th Lamido Adamawa and was a great-grandson of Modibbo Adama. Prior to his ascension to the throne of Adamawa, he was the founder and Lamido of Nassarawo in modern-day Jada.
