Modibbo Adama University, Yola^[1] is a public research university^[2] in Girei, a town in Adamawa State, Northeastern Nigeria. It is one of the four federal technology universities established with the sole purpose of advancing science-based research.^[3] The university has been accredited by the National Universities Commission.^[4] The university offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and PhD degrees. The Vice Chancellor is Abdullahi Liman Tukur.^[5]^[6]

In 1984, the University was merged to University of Maiduguri , and it became the Modibbo Adama Campus (MACUM). Federal University of Technology, Yola. Once again, the university was demerged and given complete autonomy in 1988. The university's name was changed to Modibbo Adama University of Technology,(MAUTECH) Yola in 2011 with the approval of the then- current President and Commander in Chief, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, and it became effective on October 1 of that year.^[7] supposedly named after Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan(1809-1847), a great scholar, an erudite educationist, an outstanding leader and the founder of the Fombina Kingdom (The Present Adamawa Emirate). As the first ruler and founder of the Emirate, Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan was one of the disciples and flag bearers of Sheikh Usman Ibn Fodio of the Sokoto Caliphate. The new name took effect from 1st October, 2011. Subsequently, President Muhammadu Buhari assented to the Modibbo Adama University Yola establishment bill on 6 January 2021.

The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in seven schools, including the Faculty of Agriculture (FOA), the Faculty of Environmental Science (FES), the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences(FSMS), the Faculty of Physical Sciences (FPS), the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) the Faculty of Engineering (FOE), the Faculty of Education (FED), the College of Medical Sciences,the School of General Studies (SGS) and the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS).^[7]

The university offers degree programs through its centers for distance learning in addition to traditional full-time programs. Additionally, it offers Diploma and Certificate programs in over twenty programs through its Consultancy Services Unit. The university has focused mostly on teaching and research in the fields of science and technology. These have drawn a number of partnerships and collaborations with foreign universities and corporate entities, Government and non- governmental organizations to the university.^[7]

Yola, meaning 'Great Plain' or 'Vast Plain Land', is a large city, capital city and administrative centre of Adamawa State, Nigeria. It is located on the Benue River, and it has a population of over 336,648 (2010). Yola is split into two parts. The old town of Yola where the Lamido resides is the traditional city and the new city of Jimeta is the administrative and commercial centre. They are generally referred to as Yola.

Adamawa state is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Borno to the northwest, Gombe to the west for 95 km, and Taraba to the southwest for about 366 km, while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon across the Atlantica Mountains for about 712 km. It takes its name from the historic emirate of Adamawa, with the emirate's old capital of Yola, serving as the capital city of Adamawa state. The state is one of the most heterogeneous in Nigeria, with over 100 indigenous ethnic groups. It was formed in 1991, when the former Gongola state was divided into Adamawa and Taraba states. Since it was carved out of the old Gongola State in 1991 by the General Ibrahim Badamsi Babangida military regime, Adamawa State has had 10 men, both military and civilian, controlling the levers of power, who played crucial roles in transforming the state into what it is today.

The Federal University of Technology Akure is a federal government-owned university located in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. It was founded in 1981 driven by the federal government of Nigeria to create universities that specialized in producing graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technologies.

The Adamawa Emirate is a traditional state located in Fombina, an area which now roughly corresponds to areas of Adamawa State and Taraba state in Nigeria, and previously also in the three northern regions of Cameroon, including minor Parts of Chad and the Central African Republic.

It offers an American-style liberal arts higher education at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Founded in 2003,[1] AUN, Africa’s first “Development University,” is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).[2] Its current faculty numbers 93, its undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 1500 students. It is known as the first American-style university in Sub-Saharan Africa. AUN is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Adamawa State Polytechnic is a tertiary educational institution in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. It was established in 1991 through a merger of the College of Preliminary Studies Yola and the Staff Development Institute, Numan. The new polytechnic provides national diploma programs in computer science, statistics, accountancy, business studies and secretarial studies. The polytechnic, run by the State government, is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education. The institution has become affiliated with the University of Maiduguri for the purpose of running degree programmes.

Benue State University is a state-owned university in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. In 2006, student enrollment was over 19,000 served by 7 faculties and 23 departments. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs with a catalogue of over 58 graduate programs across 9 colleges/faculties. It is accredited by the National Universities Commission. The current Vice-chancellor of Benue State University is Professor Prof. Tor Iorapuu, who took over from Professor Msugh Moses Kembe on 3 November 2020.

Baze University is a private tertiary institution located in Abuja, Nigeria. It was established in 2011 and offers basic standard education. Many Nigerian Politicians bagged their degrees from same university.

Federal University Oye Ekiti is a government-owned and operated Nigerian university. The university is in the ancient city of Oye-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti making it two campuses. The university was founded in 2011 as one of the federal universities established by the federal government of Nigeria, led by President Goodluck Jonathan.

University of Cross River State also known as UNICROSS is a state-owned tertiary institution with four campuses spread across four Local Government Areas of the state. The University was formerly known as the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). It was renamed in February of 2021 by a bill passed at Cross River State House of Assembly which was then approved by the former governor of the State, Benedict Ayade. The change of the tertiary institution's name was to enable the varsity function as a conventional University, which provides the opportunity to offer more professional courses rather focusing on tech-related courses. The present vice chancellor of the institution is Prof Augustine Angba.

Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, also known as Binani, is a Nigerian politician and entrepreneur who was the senator for Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023. On 30 March 2020, she was appointed Gimbiyar Adamawa by the Adamawa Emirate Council.

Modibbo Raji was a 19th-century Fulani Islamic scholar who was part of the community of Usman Dan Fodio, founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, and his brother Abdullahi dan Fodio. After a long career as a teacher, Qadi, Naib and Wazir (vizier) in the Gwandu Emirate under his mentor Abdullahi dan Fodio and his successors, Modibbo Raji emigrated in the 1850s and eventually settled in Adamawa. He is generally regarded as the founder of the Islamic scholarly tradition in Adamawa as well as one of the earliest exponents of the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect in the Sokoto Caliphate. He died c. 1865 and was buried in Yola leaving behind his writings both in Arabic and Fulfulde, and a large scholarly community of his sons, daughters, students and associates.
