Paul University, Awka (PUA) is located in Awka, Anambra State in Nigeria. It is a private Christian University. It was founded in 2009 by Bishops of the five ecclesiastical provinces of the Anglican Church East of the Niger to provide undergraduate training in Arts, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and Management. [1] The university which is fully residential has an estimated enrollment of around 400 students (expected to reach 3,500) and has replaced St Paul's University College which was founded in 1904 by the Church Missionary Society of the Church of England to train church workers and teachers. [2] Although, Paul University Awka is a Private University, the Anambra State government under Governor Peter Obi donated cash and vehicles for its infrastructural upgrade and development. [3]
Paul University has affiliate institutions like Institute of Theology which is headed by the Director, Ven Dr Rex Kanu. Prof Obiora Nwosu, is the Vice Chancellor while Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) and Prof Godwin Onu is Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), in Adjunct capacity. The first Board of Trustee was headed by a former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme (GCON) who also built the Administrative Offices which houses the Senate Chamber.
Paul University, Awka currently has three faculties and these faculties offer a variety of courses. The faculties are; Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, and Faculty of Arts. [5] In addition, it runs an Institute of Theology, which it inherited from the defunct St. Paul's University College, and also admits students into the JUPEB [6] and Continuing Education Programme (CEP).
The school provides the services of a bookshop, cyber cafe, computer Science [7] and training center, among other services.

Paul University Library was established on 30 November 2009 to support and facilitate the teaching, learning, research and recreational activities of the University Community. The library inherited the collection of the former St. Paul's College, Awka, which is expanding and broadening as the College Library transforms into a University Library, balancing Sciences with earlier emphasis on the Arts, Social and Management Sciences. [8]
The University Library also has an E-Library section. This is a section of the library in which the collections are stored in electronic media formats (as opposed to print, or other media) and accessible through computers. These are made available and accessible to the students and staff of the academic community. [9]

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is a university in Nigeria that was founded as Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) on 30 July 1980, by the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo. The creation of Enugu State out of Anambra State in 1991 by the then Military President General Ibrahim Gbadamasi Babangida, transformed ASUTECH into Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, fondly called UNIZIK, is a federal university in Nigeria. It consists of two campuses in Anambra State. Its main campus is in Awka, while its other campus is in Nnewi. There are also other campuses of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. These include Agulu in Anaocha local government area and Ifite-Ogwuari in Ayamelum local government area in Anambra State. This makes Nnamdi Azikiwe University to operate in the three Senatorial Districts in Anambra State, Nigeria having Awka campus, in Anambra Central Senatorial District, Nnewi in Anambra South Senatorial District and Ifite-Ogwuari in Anambra North Senatorial District, respectively.

The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola. In 2021, Tansian University lost its Founder, Rev Msgr Prof John Akam to death.
University of Cross River State also known as UNICROSS is a state-owned tertiary institution with four campuses spread across four Local Government Areas of the state. The University was formerly known as the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). It was renamed in February of 2021 by a bill passed at Cross River State House of Assembly which was then approved by the former Governor of the State, Benedict Ayade. The change of the tertiary institution's name was to enable the varsity function as a conventional University, which provides the opportunity to offer more professional courses rather focusing on tech-related courses. Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe is a Nigerian professor of soil science and the 15th Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He joined the university in the year 1976 as a soil survey assistant and in 1976 he became an academic staff of the institution. Chinyere Stella Okunna is the first female professor in Mass communication in Nigeria. She has served in various capacities as an administrator and educationist in the academia and in the public/political arena. Chinyere Stella Okunna's research interest is in the area of communication for development, particularly women’s development from the perspective of women and the media. She has done considerable work on the role of the media in the effort to empower Nigerian women and improve their condition and status in the patriarchal male-dominated Nigerian society.
Charles Okechukwu Esimone is a Nigerian professor of biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical biotechnology who served as the vice-chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria from 2019 to 2024. He is the first professor of pharmaceutical microbiology in South-Eastern Nigeria.
