The University of Zambia Library is the academic library of the University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka, Zambia. It consists of three specialised libraries: the UNZA Main Library, the School of Veterinary Medicine Library, and the Medical Library. [1] The main library was designated a National Reference Library and is as such open to the general public. [2]
The Veterinary Library also known as Samora Machel Veterinary Library offers more than 10,000 print and electronic resources on veterinary medicine, anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, and parasitology as well as information on practice management, ethics, and animal welfare. The library is available to help meet the information needs of staff and students in the Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Sciences. [3]
The University of Zambia Medical library is located at Ridgeway Campus within the University Teaching Hospital which is the biggest tertiary hospital in Zambia. The role of UNZA Medical Library is to provide access to comprehensive biomedical information resources required by students, faculty members of the Medical school, Hospital staff and researchers for learning and teaching and also serve as a national reference library. There are over 40,000 printed volumes and electronic resources. [4]
The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the Governor General of Nigeria between 1960 and 1963, and first President of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. The University of Nigeria Nsukka was formally opened on 7 October 1960. The University of Nigeria has three campuses in Enugu State–Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – and the Aba campus in Abia State.
The Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine is the veterinary school Virginia Tech and the University of Maryland, College Park - both of which are public research universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Maryland, respectively.The college was created as a joint venture of the two universities and their respective state governments in order to fill the need for veterinary medicine education in both states. Students from both states are considered "in-state" students for admissions and tuition purposes.

Mahidol University is an autonomous public research university in Thailand. The university was founded as part of Siriraj Hospital in 1888. It was first called the University of Medical Science in 1943, and has been recognized as Thailand's fourth public university. A typical health or medical library has access to MEDLINE, a range of electronic resources, print and digital journal collections, and print reference books. The influence of open access (OA) and free searching via Google and PubMed has a major impact on the way medical libraries operate.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, also called UNIZIK or NAU in short is a federal university in Nigeria. It consists of two campuses in Anambra State. Its main campus is in Awka, while its other campus is in Nnewi. There are also other campuses of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. These include Agulu in Aniocha local government area and Ifite-Ogwuari in Ayamelum local government area in Anambra State. This makes Nnamdi Azikiwe University to operate in the three Senatorial Districts in Anambra State, Nigeria having Awka campus, in Anambra Central Senatorial District, Nnewi in Anambra North Senatorial District and Ifite-Ogwuari in Anambra North Senatorial District, respectively.
Madonna University is the first Catholic university in Nigeria. It was accredited by National Universities Commission. Madonna University Nigeria has three campuses that are located in Elele - Rivers State, Okija - Anambra State and Akpugo - Enugu State. The campuses have different Faculties with Departments. The Okija campus in Anambra state has the following Faculties: Management and Social Sciences; Arts and Education, and Law. The Elele campus has Faculties of Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacology. The Akpugo campus has Faculty of Engineering. These campuses have their main libraries as well as libraries attached to Faculties and the Departments. The university graduates first class, second class and third class students. The university also has a postgraduate program and part-time program that runs on Fridays and Saturdays.
Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University is a Turkish public research university located in Çanakkale (Dardannelles) province and its surrounding towns. The Jordan University of Science and Technology, often abbreviated JUST, is a public technological university located on the outskirts of Irbid, at Ar Ramtha in northern Jordan. Mulungushi University is one of the public universities of Zambia. Previously known as the National College of Management and Development Studies, it was turned into a university by the Zambian Government in a public-private partnership with Konkola Copper Mines in 2008. The university consists of three campuses: the Main Campus, or Great North Road Campus, located 26 kilometers North of Kabwe on the banks of the Mulungushi River; the Town Campus, located along Mubanga Road, off Munkoyo Street, near the center of Kabwe town; and the Livingstone Campus, located in Livingstone, which is home to the medical school. The university provides bachelor's degrees and master's degrees for full-time and distance education. In 2009, more than 500 distance education students enrolled. They were mainly former diploma students of the National College for Management and Development Studies.
The University Teaching Hospital (UTH), formerly Lusaka Hospital, is the biggest public tertiary hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. It is the largest hospital with 1,655 beds. It is a teaching hospital and, as such, is used to train local medical students, nurses and other health professionals. UTH is the main medical training institution in Zambia for doctors, nurses, clinical officers and other health professionals. It provides primary, secondary and tertiary care.
Makerere University Library, established in 1949, is the oldest academic library in Uganda. In addition to its primary role as an academic library, it also serves as the national reference library and the legal depository of all works published in Uganda. It has been a depository for the United Nations since 1956.
The University of Zambia School of Medicine (UNZASOM), also known as University of Zambia Medical School is the school of medicine of the University of Zambia. The medical school is the country's first public medical school, the other being the Copperbelt University School of Medicine. The school provides medical education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State (AE-FUNAI) is a Nigerian higher institution located in Ndufu-Alike Ikwo of Ebonyi State. It was established in 2011. It was formally called Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo until February 2nd, 2018 when it renamed by the Federal Government after the late civilian Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme. The University sits on a land mass of 438 hectares. The University has 10, 000 and 2, 230 students and staff population respectively.
An institutional repository (IR) is simply a "digital archive of the intellectual products created by faculty research staff and students of an institution and accessible to end users both within and outside of the institution, with few if any barriers to access”. To enhance optimization and accessibility of the content in the IR, open access repositories are registered with the Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR) which basically is a list of open academic repositories. Many universities have established IRs to promote open access to knowledge and information. The University of Zambia Institutional Repository (UNZA-IR) was established in 2010 with the support of the Netherlands Government to help archive the intellectual output of the university. The repository falls under the UNZA main Library and is headed by the repository manager who oversees the operations of the repository. The UNZA repository was created using Dspace, an "open source repository software package used for creating open access repositories.
