The upcoming debut studio album by American singer Dove Cameron is set to be released in 2025 through Disruptor and Columbia Records. It will follow her debut extended play, Alchemical: Volume 1 (2023). The album has been preceded by the release of three singles: "Too Much", "French Girls" and "Romeo".
For the album, which was completed in June 2024, Cameron was inspired by the early works of Marina Diamandis, Robyn, Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey that she had grown up listening to. She wanted to create "recession-pop, big radio banger sound" for the album and is set to release it before late 2025, before Christmas music can impact people's listening habits. [1]
After various single releases, Cameron announced in 2022 that she had begun work on a new EP and released the single "Boyfriend" which went viral on TikTok and reached top-ten in various countries. [2] [3] After its release, Cameron reset her public music catalog, removing her older releases from all streaming services. She also announced that she had changed her upcoming EP to a two-part album titled Alchemical. [4] The first half, Alchemical: Volume 1 , was released on December 1, 2023. [5] Despite plans to release the second volume to Alchemical, Cameron scrapped the idea and took a break from music. She focused on therapy and "digging and excavation" into her personal pain and depression, which she felt had helped her to shape her next music project. [6] She also felt departed from the sound of Alchemical, stating that she was in a different place in her life and in a more positive environment. [6]
Despite looking back and acknowledging that Alchemical was "true" for her at the time, Cameron does not view it as her debut album. She described it as "a direct reflection of how watery and lost and dissonant [she] felt from the world around [her]" and considers this album "her proper musical introduction". [1] Cameron co-wrote and recorded this album shortly after beginning a relationship with Italian singer Damiano David, citing their relationship as inspiration for it. Stating that she was "very healed, very in love, feeling very safe", Cameron began to listen and be inspired by music she had grown up with, including Marina Diamandis, Robyn, Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey. She wanted to create "recession-pop, big radio banger sound" for the album, since it was what Cameron was consuming personally. [1]
Cameron completed work on the album in June 2024, days before leaving for Montreal to film a role in 56 Days . She is expected to release it before late 2025, having stated to Nylon that once October begins, "you're f*cked! It's Christmas music. There’s no chance of anyone listening to your sh*t!" [1]
The lead single for the album, "Too Much", was released on February 21, 2025. In an interview with Billboard , Cameron stated that "Too Much" is about an unsupportive ex-boyfriend of hers. She recounted a night out with friends and her boyfriend at the time, where she expressed her joy at the night after getting into the taxi with him. He replied: "You know, people like you better when you talk less", which made Cameron worry that she read the night wrong and that people disliked her. [6] The song drew comparisons to the early works of Lady Gaga and Marina Diamandis. [7] [6] On May 2, 2025, she released the second single "French Girls", a statement about the self-sacrifice that comes with being a woman in the entertainment industry. [8] The third single, "Romeo", is about taking up space, knowing your worth and surrendering to romance. It was released on June 27, 2025, with a corresponding music video. [1]
In April 2025, Cameron headlined "Everything Must Go", an online, live gig where viewers could buy memorabilia from her life and career. The livestream was to raise funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). [9] The setlist for the gig included numerous songs from the album, [10] marking it as both the first time fans had heard various songs, as well as the first time Cameron had performed them live. [11] Then in June 2025, she supported Dua Lipa on the British and Irish leg of her Radical Optimism Tour, where she performed various songs from the body of work. [12]
