Kohat Division is one of the seven divisions in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It consists of five districts: Hangu, Karak, Kohat, Kurram, and Orakzai. According to the 2017 Census of Pakistan, the division had a population of 3,211,458, making it the third-least populous division in the province. Its area is 12,377 km2 (4,779 sq mi). Thus, it is also the fourth-largest division by area in the province. Kohat is the division's largest city and its namesake. Kohat city has a population of 220,000. The division borders Bannu Division to the south and west, Peshawar Division to the north and east, the province of Punjab to the east, and Afghanistan to the northwest.

The 10 October 2008 Orakzai bombing occurred when a suicide bomber drove and detonated a pick-up truck packed with 300 kg of explosives into a meeting of 600 people, killing 40 instantly and injuring 81, although the toll later rose to 110 as many died in hospitals. The attack occurred in a remote region where the injured could not get medical attention for several hours.

The 2009 Pakistan Army Mil Mi-17 crash occurred on July 3, 2009, in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. A Russian-manufactured Mil Mi-17 transport helicopter of the Pakistan Army crashed in Orakzai Agency. According to a source within the Army the crash was due to a technical fault. Some sources reported local people attributing the crash to militant activity. The crash site was Chapar Feroze Khel, 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Peshawar, on the border of the semi-autonomous Orakzai and Khyber tribal agencies. The area is remote and also full of militants, which hampered the rescue efforts.

Mamuzai is a Pashtun Sub-tribe of Orakzai in Pakistan. Several Mamuzai live in Kohat, Peshawar, Islamabad, and in other areas in Pakistan. Mamozai also has sub-tribes.This is not to be confused with the region along the Pakistan border, Mamuzai. As of 2016, the returning of displaced individuals back to Mamuzai has been started.

The Orakzai and Kurram offensive, also known as Operation Khwakh Ba De Sham was a Pakistani military operation against the Tehrik-i-Taliban in the Orakzai Agency and Kurram Agency area of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas that began on 23 March 2010. It was part of the War in North-West Pakistan.

The April 2010 Kohat bombings were a pair of bombings that struck a center for displaced people on the outskirts of the town of Kohat, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, on April 17, 2010. At least 41 people were killed, while another 64 more were injured. The next day another suicide bombing at a police station killed 7 more and injured nearly two dozen.
