Upset The Rhythm is an independent record label based in London with a varied roster of leftfield artists and bands; [1] [2] they also operate as a diverse DIY live music promoter. [3] Huw Stephens featured Upset The Rhythm as "purveyors of interesting indie" on his BBC Radio 1 show (24 November 2011) as part of his ongoing 'Label Of Love' [4] feature. As of 2015, Upset The Rhythm had 85 releases.

History

Upset The Rhythm initially formed in 2003 while its members were organising a concert for Deerhoof. [5] By 2015, Upset The Rhythm had organised about 700 shows. [6]

Upset The Rhythm shows occur each week in venues across London from smaller DIY hubs like Power Lunches to more established venues like The Roundhouse. [7] The record label began in the Summer of 2005, funded by a gift of profits from a The Evens show by Ian MacKaye. [8] [9] The label's first release was a mini-album by Death Sentence: Panda!, [10] followed by debut releases by John Maus, No Age and Future Islands. [11] The company works with unusual and upcoming American acts, and also promotes the UK's DIY music scene, releasing records by Trash Kit, Cold Pumas, The Pheromoans, Pega Monstro [12] Silver Fox, The World [13] and Terry. [14]

By December 2013, Upset the Rhythm's live music promotions included working with Tate Britain and Frieze Magazine on their music programming, [15] organising an all day charity concert with artist David Shrigley for Amnesty International and co-founding the art/music festival Yes Way [16] [17] with London gallery Auto Italia South East. [18]

Dear God, I Hate Myself is the seventh studio album by American indie rock band Xiu Xiu released on February 23, 2010. This is their first album since the departure of Caralee McElroy. The album features new member Angela Seo on piano, synthesizer and drum programming, with production by frontman Jamie Stewart and Deerhoof's Greg Saunier. This album marked a departure from the more analogue styles of Women as Lovers and The Air Force, and shifted stylistic choices to a more chiptune style, utilizing the Nintendo DS' KORG DS-10 software to program drum and synthesizer tracks.

Greg Dalton, also known by the moniker Gary War, is an American musician whose recordings combine elements of psychedelia, garage rock, synth-pop, and shoegaze. He is a former member of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and has released three albums, a split LP with Purple Pilgrims, two EPs and several singles. Currently, he is based in New Zealand.

Melt Yourself Down are a London-based band who incorporate elements of West African musical styles (afrobeat), punk, jazz and funk. Founded in January 2012, the band is led by saxophonist Pete Wareham, former leader of now defunct jazz/punk band Acoustic Ladyland and saxophonist in British jazz band Polar Bear. The original line-up included saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, drummer Tom Skinner, vocalist Kushal Gaya, bassist Ruth Goller and percussionist Satin Singh.

Bamboo are a British musical duo made up of Nick Carlisle and Rachel Horwood. They formed in 2014 and have released the albums Prince Pansori Priestess (2015), The Dragon Flies Away (2016) and Daughters of the Sky (2019). Carlisle contributes keyboards and production; Horwood contributes vocals, electric banjo, and drums. For live performances they have included a drummer and bass player.
