In November 1998 Michael Schiavo,husband of Terri Schiavo,first sought permission to remove his wife's feeding tube. Schiavo had suffered brain damage in February 1990,and in February 2000 had been ruled by a Florida circuit court to be in a persistent vegetative state. Her feeding tube was removed first on April 26,2001,but was reinserted two days later on an appeal by her parents,Bob and Mary Schindler.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Florida since January 6,2015,as a result of a ruling in Brenner v. Scott from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. The court ruled the state's same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional on August 21,2014. The order was stayed temporarily. State attempts at extending the stay failed,with the U.S. Supreme Court denying further extension on December 19,2014. In addition,a state court ruling in Pareto v. Ruvin allowed same-sex couples to obtain marriage licenses in Miami-Dade County on the afternoon of January 5,2015. In another state case challenging the state's denial of marriage rights to same-sex couples,a Monroe County court in Huntsman v. Heavilin stayed enforcement of its decision pending appeal and the stay expired on January 6,2015. Florida was the 35th U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage.
Loretta A. Preska is an American lawyer who serves as a senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Born in Albany,Preska received law degrees from Fordham University School of Law and New York University School of Law. She practiced law in New York City from 1973 to 1992 at the law firms of Cahill Gordon &Reindel and Hertzog,Calamari &Gleason. President George H. W. Bush appointed her to the district bench in 1992. She served as chief judge of the court for a seven-year term from 2009 to 2016,and took senior status in 2017. President George W. Bush nominated Preska to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2008,but the Senate did not act on the nomination.

Regenerative Sciences,LLC,741 F.3d 1314,was a decision in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit filed on February 4,2014 concerning more than minimally manipulated cell therapies and whether they are considered part of medical practice or a drug,the latter subjecting it to regulation under the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Regenerative Sciences LLC marketed a therapy procedure called Regenexx-C for the treatment of arthritis and orthopedic injury that involved extraction and culture of mesenchymal stem cells from the same patient which were later reinjected. In 2008,The FDA notified Regenerative Sciences LLC that the procedure may not be in compliance with their regulation using an Untitled Letter,which began a series of suits and counter suits,leading to the 2014 decision upholding the FDA’s regulation of more than minimally manipulated stem cell therapies.
Multiple lawsuits have been filed in connection with the Steele dossier,primarily involving defamation claims by plaintiffs such as Aleksej Gubarev,the three owners of Alfa-Bank,Michael Cohen,Devin Nunes,Giorgi Rtskhiladze,and Carter Page against Christopher Steele,BuzzFeed,Oath,Orbis Business Intelligence,the Democratic National Committee,and others. All of these defamation cases,except one,were dismissed or withdrawn by the plaintiffs.
