The Uruguay men's national volleyball team represents Uruguay in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches. In the 1950s the squad twice won a silver medal (1951 and 1956) at the South American Championship. The dominant forces in men's volleyball on the South American continent are Brazil and Argentina.

The Uruguay women's national volleyball team is the national team of Uruguay. The squad won the silver medal at the inaugural 1951 South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The dominant forces in women's volleyball on the South American continent however became Brazil and Peru.

The 1999 Men's South American Volleyball Championship was the 23rd edition of the event, organised by South America's governing volleyball body, the Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV). The final round was hosted in Córdoba, Argentina from September 7 to September 11, 1999. Brazil and hosts Argentina were automatically qualified, Venezuela and Uruguay each won their preliminary round.

The Girls' U16 South American Volleyball Championship is a sport competition for national women's volleyball teams with players under 16 years, currently held biannually and organized by the Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV), the South American volleyball federation. The first edition of the tournament was played in Canelones, Uruguay from November 21 to 26.

The CSV qualification for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship saw member nations compete for three places at the finals in Poland. Uruguay competed in the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada from July 10 to 26, 2015.

Beach volleyball competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 13 to 21 at a temporary facility in Exhibition Place called the Chevrolet Beach Volleyball Centre. A total of two beach volleyball tournaments were held: one each for the men and women.
