The 19th Utah Senate District is located in Morgan, Summit, and Weber Counties and includes Utah House Districts 7, 8, 9, 28, 29, 53, and 54. The current State Senator representing the 19th district is Allen M. Christensen. Christensen was elected to the Utah Senate in 2004 and is up for re-election in 2012.

The 2nd Utah Senate District is located in Salt Lake County, Utah and includes Utah House Districts 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, 33 and 35. The current State Senator representing the 2nd district is Derek Kitchen. Kitchen was elected to the Utah Senate in 2018 to replace Jim Dabakis.

The 4th Utah Senate District is located in Salt Lake County and includes Utah House Districts 36, 37, 40, 44, 45, and 46. The current State Senator representing the 4th district is Jani Iwamoto. Iwamoto was elected to the Utah Senate in 2014 and is up for re-election in 2018.

The 5th Utah Senate District is located in Salt Lake County, Utah. The current State Senator representing the 5th district is Karen Mayne. Mayne was appointed to the Utah Senate on January 16, 2008, to fill a seat that was recently vacated when her husband Senator Ed Mayne died. Mayne won her re-election bid on November 4, 2008, against Republican candidate Jonathan Fidler and Constitution candidate James E. Peverelle, Jr.

Incumbent Senator Mike Lee, who was first elected in 2010, won reelection to a third term, defeating Evan McMullin, an independent candidate who was endorsed by the Utah Democratic Party. This was the first Senate election in Utah's history in which there was no Democratic nominee. Lee's performance was the worst for a Republican in a Utah U.S. Senate election since 1974, while McMullin's was the best ever for an Independent in a Utah U.S. Senate race and the best for a non-Republican since 1976.
