IJCU Dragons Utrecht is a professional ice hockey team in Utrecht, Netherlands. The team played under the name "Hoek Dragons Utrecht" in the Dutch Eredivisie, the top professional hockey division in the Netherlands in 2008-2009. In 2013, it ceased operations. However, the team was reborn in 2019, when they entered the Dutch "Eerste Divisie" (First Division) for the first time in 6 years, finishing with 8 wins, 10 losses, and 2 overtime losses. Home games are played at De Vechtsebanen.
Utrecht has had an ice hockey club for many years, including teams named "Dragons". For 2008-2009, the team created a professional squad to compete in the Eredivisie, finishing with a record of 2 wins and 22 losses. They played in the Eerste divisie, the top amateur league in the Netherlands until January 2013, when a loss of players required them to forfeit the remainder of the season.
In March of 2019, rumours of a return were spoken of on social media. They held tryouts shortly thereafter to determine their selection for the following season. the team was reborn in 2019, when they entered the Dutch "Eerste Divisie" (First Division) for the first time in 6 years, finishing with 8 wins, 10 losses, and 2 overtime losses. After qualifying for the playoffs, Utrecht lost in the opening round to Yeti's Breda in two straight games. Long time player Ivo Beulen led the team in scoring for the season.
After playing only one game to start the 2020/2021, the First Division season was paused and later cancelled due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The team announced it would continue the following season, which is planned to start in September of 2021.

The Eredivisie is the highest level of professional football in the Netherlands. The league was founded in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands. As of the 2022–23 season, it is ranked the sixth-best league in Europe by UEFA.
The Eerste Divisie is the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands. It is linked with the top-level Eredivisie and with the third-level Tweede Divisie via promotion/relegation systems. It is also known as the Keuken Kampioen Divisie due to sponsorship reasons, while previously it was known as Jupiler League for the same reason.
Sportclub Veendam was a Dutch professional association football club based in Veendam, province of Groningen. Founded on 4 September 1894 as Look-Out, it became P.J. Veendam in 1909, Veendam in 1910, SC Veendam in 1974, BV Veendam in 1997 and again SC Veendam in 2011. The club was a founder member of the regional first tier Eerste Klasse Noord in 1916 and became champions of the division in 1931–32; it qualified for the national championship play-offs but finished in bottom place. Veendam took part in the inaugural season of the third tier Tweede Divisie in 1956–57; after yo-yoing between the third and second tiers, the team won promotion to the first tier Eredivisie for the first time in 1985–86. The side spent two seasons in the Eredivisie—1986–87 and 1988–89—but were relegated both times. Veendam then competed in the second tier Eerste Divisie until they were dissolved due to financial problems in 2013.

IJshockey Nederland (IJNL) is the official governing body of ice hockey in the Netherlands. It was founded as the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond in 1933 as a three team league with The Hague, Amsterdam and Tilburg. It joined the International Ice Hockey Federation on 20 January, 1935. In 1946, it created the Eredivisie. The organisation’s name was changed from NIJB to IJNL in 2017.
Marinus Dijkhuizen is a Dutch professional football manager and former player who manages Excelsior. As a player, he had notable spells in his native Netherlands with Excelsior, SC Cambuur and TOP Oss. He retired in 2009 and entered management, eventually returning to Excelsior as manager in 2014.

Zoetermeer Panthers is a former semi-professional ice hockey team in the Eredivisie, the Dutch professional, top-level hockey league. They played in the Silverdome, an ice sports facility in Zoetermeer, Netherlands. They began play for the 2010-2011 season in the Dutch Bekercompetitie, the league leading up to the National Cup championship game. On November 26 the club announced that they would withdraw from the Eredivisie, effective immediately, due to lack of sponsors and poor attendance figures. They currently maintain two teams in the amateur Eerste Divisie league.

The fixtures were announced on 14 June 2016.

The league was founded in 2015, following a merger between the Belgian Hockey League and the Dutch Eredivisie and thus became the top tier of the sport in both nations. In terms of league structure, the BeNe League is made up of 11 teams, 6 from the Netherlands and a further 5 from Belgium, and they all play in a single group. The league featured a mix of Belgian, Dutch, European and overseas players.
