The Uzeyir Hajibeyov International Music Festival is held in September, since 2009, in Azerbaijan. [1] Musical events are held in several cities of Azerbaijan, and the main ceremonies take place in Baku. [2]

History

Since 1995, September 18 (Uzeyir Hajibeyov's birthday) was celebrated as National Music Day in Azerbaijan. [3] Beginning in 2009, it was decided to hold the International Music Festival devoted to well-known Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov's creativity. [4]

Overview

The festival usually lasts 10 days. Events are conducted in different venues including National Art Museum of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall, Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theatre, International Mugham Center, Azerbaijan State Academic Music Theatre, Baku Music Academy, Heydar Aliyev Palace in Baku, as well as in different regions of Azerbaijan. Musicians from other countries participate at the festival side-by-side with Azerbaijani musicians. Performances made on the basis of Uzeyir Hajibeyov's compositions [5] and scientific conferences called upon to learn Hajibeyov's creative heritage are organized besides concerts. The organizers of the festival are the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. [6]

Azərbaycan marşı National anthem of Azerbaijan

"Azərbaycan marşı" is the national anthem of Azerbaijan. The music was composed by Uzeyir Hajibeyov, with lyrics by poet Ahmad Javad. The government officially adopted the anthem in 1920 with the passage of the decree, "On the State Hymn of the Republic of Azerbaijan." Gabala International Music Festival Place in Azerbaijan

Gabala International Music Festival is an annual festival of classical music held every summer beginning in 2009 in Gabala, Azerbaijan. The festival is organised with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation at the initiative of the rector of the Baku Academy of Music Farhad Badalbeyli and conductor Dmitri Yablonski. At this festival, musicians perform in the open air. Participants have included musicians from Europe, the US and Israel, as well as musicians from republics of the former USSR. In 2009, a contest of young pianists was held at the same time with the musical festival. Jazz and mugham evenings were held along with classical music concerts. In 2010, the festival was held on August. General director of UNESCO Irina Bokova was in the opening ceremony of the festival. The festival began with the performance of overture from Uzeyir Hajibeyov's "Koroglu" opera as in 2009. Opening ceremony of the festival was charged to Royal Philarmonic Orchestra. Such musicians as Dmitri Yablonski, Yuri Bashmet, Khloe Khanslip and other Azerbaijani and foreign musicians took part in the festival. In 2011, the festival lasted from July 15 to August 5.

Mstislav Rostropovich Baku International Festival

International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival – a festival organized by Mstislav Rostropovich in 2006, in Baku and dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich’s birthday was the basis of this festival. Beginning from 2007, the festival dedicated to eminent Baku citizen Msitslav Rostropovich is held in December. Organizers of the festival are the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. A great number of musicians and performers annually come to Baku to participate at the festival. Spectators can enjoy performance of scholarship holders of Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation. Concerts, held within the festival are held on the best stages of the city.

Khari Bulbul Music Festival

Khari Bulbul Music Festival is a state-sponsored, international music festival held in Shusha. The Festival was held 1989 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the famous singer Seyid Shushinski, and was held annual in May until 1992, when the city was captured during the First Nagorno-Karabakh war. The festival was held with the participation of countries such as Japan, the United States, Turkey, Germany, Israel, Italy, Spain, Austria, Afghanistan and the republics of the USSR.
