Uzoamaka Aniunoh is a Nigerian actor and writer. She has been a regular cast member of MTV Shuga appearing in several series including the first and the sixth. [1]
Aniunoh was born in Onitsha. She studied English & Literary Studies and History & International Studies at the University of Nigeria. In 2015, she moved to England where she studied creative writing at the University of Birmingham gaining a master's degree. [2]
She returned to Nigeria in 2017 and attended the open auditions for a new series named MTV Shuga. [3] She was one on the few actors chosen as her role was to be Cynthia.
She has been a lead in the film "Stuck" with Seun Ajayi and Lala Akindoju. [4]
Series six of MTV Shuga returned to be based once again in Nigeria and Aniunoh reprised her role as Cynthia in that year's series sub-titled "Choices". [5] Fellow actors included Timini Egbuson, Rahama Sadau, Yakubu Mohammed, Bukola Oladipupo, Helena Nelson and Ruby Akabueze. [6]
Aniunoh was in series six of MTV Shuga and the role of Cynthia was included when it went into a mini-series titled MTV Shuga Alone Together highlighting the problems of Coronavirus on 20 April 2020. The series was written by Tunde Aladese and broadcast every night - its backers include the United Nations. [7] The series was based in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Côte d'Ivoire and the story progresses using on-line conversations on location between the characters. All of the filming was done by the actors [8] who include Lerato Walaza, Mamarumo Marokane, Jemima Osunde, Folu Storms and Aniunoh.
She plays the role of Kumene in Africa Magic's Riona.
She was listed as a Nigerian actress to look forward to in 2021 by Nigerian Entertainment Today . [9]
She starred alongside Neo Akpofure in the short film Sister Rose. [10] She was also in a short film Title Ije. [11]
In 2022, she starred in the Nigerian streaming series Diiche which was produced by James Omokwe and co-starrs were Uzoamaka Onuoha, Chinyere Wilfred, Gloria Anozie-Young and Frank Konwea. The premier in October in Lagos was hosted by Chigul. [12]

Shuga, also known as MTV Shuga, is a television drama series that was first aired in November 2009 on MTV Base as part of an initiative dubbed "MTV Staying Alive Ignite!". Its first two seasons were commissioned by MTV Networks Africa in association with The MTV Staying Alive Foundation, PEPFAR, the Partnership for an HIV-Free Generation (HFG) and the Government of Kenya, as part of a multimedia campaign to spread the message about responsible sexual behaviour and tolerance. The term Shuga is derived from the pronunciation of "Sugar" in Kenyan English.

The third season of the television drama series Shuga, dubbed Shuga Naija, was first broadcast on MTV Base from December 2013 to January 2014. The season was written by Kemi Adesoye and directed by Biyi Bandele. It starred Tiwa Savage, Chris Attoh, Maria Okanrende, Emmanuel Ikubese, Sharon Ezeamaka, Efa Iwara, Dorcas Shola Fapson, Okezie Morro, Timini Egbuson, Kachi Nnochiri, Sanni Mu'azu and Leonora Okine. Shuga Naija is a multimedia campaign which educates youths on HIV, safe sex and teen pregnancy. It also touches on maternal and child health, family planning, gender-based violence, and women empowerment. The television series, which consists of eight episodes, was shot and set in Lagos State, produced in partnership with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
