V. Mullaivendhan, also spelled V. Mullaiventhan, is a Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) party politician from Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Morappur constituency in 1989,[ citation needed ] 1996 [1] and 2006.[ citation needed ]

Mullaivendhan has served as minister of Information and Publicity from 1996. Later in 1998, he was allocated with additional subject Stationery and Printing and Government Press; subsequently he was re-designated as Minister for Information, Publicity and Printing. He was relieved as minister on 8 March 2001 and was succeeded by N. Suresh Rajan. [2] [3]

He was the State President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee till 2 February 2019 and former secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of the Indian National Congress (INC) party. His introduction to politics in 1977 was facilitated by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran. Ramachandran founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in 1972 and was facing his first elections for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election in 1977. He identified Thirunavukkarasar, a lawyer by profession, to contest the Aranthangi assembly constituency. Thirunavukkarasar won the seat, aged 27, and was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He continued in that capacity till 1980. Subsequently, he served as Tamil Nadu state minister from 1980 to 1987 in the MGR cabinet, holding portfolios that included Industries, Housing Board, Excise and Handlooms. Later, he became a member of the Lok Sabha – the lower house of the Parliament of India – when he won the erstwhile Pudukottai Lok Sabha constituency. He served as Union Minister of state for shipping and later for telecommunications and information technology.

The ninth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 21 January 1989. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the election and its leader M. Karunanidhi, became the Chief Minister. It was his third term in office. The DMK was in power only for a short term, as it was dismissed on 31 January 1991 by the Indian Prime minister Chandra Shekhar using Article 356 (Otherwise) of the Indian Constitution.

He was DMK Vellore district secretary for more than two decade. Also now he is Ranipet district DMK secretary.

A. Mohammed John was an Indian industrialist and politician. He served as Member of Rajyasabha representing Tamil Nadu. He defeated R. Gandhi of DMK party in 2011 general elections. The then ADMK party supremo J. Jayalalitha discharged him from the minister post to reshuffle her ministry and the Backward class ministry was handed over to Abdur Rahim. He was into controversy among the Muslims of his constituency for supporting the Bill and voted in favour of NDA Government's citizenship amendment Bill and there were severe protests out of his home in Ranipet which were organized by Minorities. The Muslims who are indigenous residents of Ranipet removed him from all the posts that are related to Ahle-sunnath-jama'ath which saw a major setback in his political career. While on enquiry about why he backed Tamil Nadu Chief minister Edappadi.k.Pazhaniswamy on CAB he said that the party and the commands from the same are priority for him therefore the jamaath of Ranipet removed him from all the posts of Masjid of which he was a member before. He was a member of the 14th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Ranipet constituency. He represented the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. He was minister of the state for the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare.
