Vacaville Heritage Council is a nonprofit historical archives and research organization specializing in local Solano County, California history. Founded in 1968, the Vacaville Heritage Council is currently located in the Old Town Hall at 618 East Main Street in downtown Vacaville, California. [1] [2] The Vacaville Heritage Council has recently become home to the Vacaville Reporter’s newspaper collection from 1930 to October 2006 as well as its microfilm collection that extends back to 1883. [3]

The Vacaville tree pruners' strike of 1932 was a two-month strike beginning on November 14 by the CAWIU in Vacaville, California, United States. The strikers were protesting a cut in tree pruning wages from $1.40 for an eight-hour workday to $1.25 for a nine-hour workday. The strike was characterized by multiple incidences of violence, including a break-in at the Vacaville jail that resulted in the kidnapping and abuse of six arrested strike leaders. The strikers were ultimately unsuccessful in demanding higher wages and fewer hours and the CAWIU voted to end the strike on January 20, 1933.

Consairway

Consairway was an American civilian wartime airline created in late-1941 as a subsidiary of the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation. The airline worked under contract to the United States Air Corps Ferrying Command, primarily for supplying the South West Pacific theatre of World War II. Its very first flights, starting April 23, 1942, however, were Lend-Lease deliveries of American-built aircraft to Great Britain and the Netherlands.

Will H. Buck House United States historic place

The Will H. Buck House is a historic building in Vacaville, California, United States. Designed by George Sharpe, it was built in 1892 in the Queen Anne style and was placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on October 24, 1985.

Don R. Birrell (1922–2006) was director of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California from 1951 to 1953, and was the design director for the Nut Tree in Vacaville, California from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. In addition to his design work at the Nut Tree, Birrell also created the Vacaville city logo, the logo for the Vacaville Reporter newspaper, and the artwork seen on the side of Raley's Supermarkets trucks. Birrell was also a painter of landscape watercolors. His house on Kendal Street in Vacaville was famously filled with examples of his design work for the Nut Tree.

The Harbison House is an historically significant house on Monte Vista Avenue in Vacaville, California. The Harbison House was originally located on the Harbison Ranch, where the Nut Tree restaurant and roadside stop were located.

Quail Fire (2020) 2020 wildfire that burnt near Vacaville, CA

The Quail Fire was a wildfire that burned during the 2020 California wildfire season southwest of Winters and north of Vacaville in Solano County, California in the United States. Igniting on Saturday, June 6, within the rural confines of Quail Canyon, the fire ballooned to an estimated 1,837 acres (743 ha) and destroyed three structures including one residential property. The fire was fully contained on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 and the cause still remains under investigation.
