Vanishing Twin are a London-based experimental trio, founded in 2015. The group is led by singer and guitarist Cathy Lucas, formerly a member of Fanfarlo, [1] and have released four albums: Choose Your Own Adventure (2016), The Age of Immunology (2019), Ookii Gekkou (2021), and "Afternoon X" (2023). The band's name refers to the fetal absorption of Lucas's twin during pregnancy.

Contents

The band consists of Cathy Lucas on vocals, Valentina Magaletti on drums (whose credits include Bat for Lashes and Gruff Rhys’ Neon Neon project), [2] and bassist Susumu Mukai (aka Zongamin). [3] [4] Lucas was previously a member of Fanfarlo. [3] "The group’s cosmopolitan membership initially reflected its mission to synthesize psychedelic traditions around the globe, from tropicalía to kosmische rock." [2] Their sound has been compared to the band Stereolab and is described as Brazilian psych-jazz as well as a psychedelic, experimental pop ensemble. [2]

In 2016 their debut album, Choose Your Own Adventure, was released on Soundway Records. [3] In 2017, they released the EP Dream By Numbers. [3] Their second album, The Age of Immunology, was released in 2019 on Fire Records. [3] [5] On 15 October 2021, they released their third album, Ookii Gekkou, again on Fire Records. [6]

Malcolm Catto is an English drummer and record producer. He is the co-founder and producer of the English psychedelic/jazz/experimental music group The Heliocentrics. They have so far released four of their own albums but have also issued collaborations with DJ Shadow, Mulatu Astatke, Lloyd Miller, Orlando Julius and Melvin Van Peebles.

Dumbo Gets Mad is a psychedelic pop project based in Italy. They were founded in early 2011 in Los Angeles by Luca Bergomi, who released his debut album Elephants at the Door. The album showcased a fresh approach to a mixture of musical styles and established the project as psychedelic pop. The album received many excellent reviews online and the project gained a solid fan base worldwide, thanks to its pristine sound and style. “Plumy Tale”, the first single ever released, was nominated by Joe Tangari as one of the top 50 songs on Pitchfork in 2011, and “Marmalade Kids” was chosen as song of the day by NPR. After touring Italy and Europe, Dumbo Gets Mad released a new album in 2013, Quantum Leap. This album was even more textured than the previous one and explored various musical genres, resulting in a mind-blowing psychedelic jam. Dumbo Gets Mad performed with bands such as Neon Indian and Black Lips, and one of the singles on this album, “Indian Food”, became very popular and defined the band’s sound. Thank You Neil, released in 2015, was a more soulful album inspired by American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. The live recorded album had a more elegant and minimal production style and received wonderful reviews. After four years of hiatus, Dumbo Gets Mad released a new single “Makes You Fly” with the French label “Nice Guys” in 2019 as a preview of a new full-length album. “Things Are Random And Time Is Speeding Up” came out in February 2021 and confirmed the psychedelic nature of the project. In early 2020 Dumbo Gets Mad started a North American tour but had to stop it due to the pandemic; The tour resumed March 2023.

The band are made up of English guitarist and singer Jack McEwan, guitarist Luke Parish, drummer Danny Caddy, bassist Wayan Biliondana, and keyboardist Chris Young, who began playing together in "an old horse barn in Leederville". Their genre and sound has been compared to that of other popular psychedelic rock bands in Australia, such as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Tame Impala. They have self-described their sound as "an energetic mess of colour and tone". Concerning the reasoning behind the name of the band, its members have given little explanation. The band claims it was chosen at random because they thought it was amusing.
