Vanka Pratap (born 21 November 1973) is an Indian former first-class cricketer who represented Hyderabad and India A. He later worked as a selector for the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
An all-rounder,Pratap batted right-handed and bowled right-arm medium pace. He made his first-class debut for Hyderabad at the age of 18 in December 1991. He went on to make 83 first-class and 49 List A appearances for Hyderabad,South Zone,Board President's XI,Wills XI and India A. He scored just under 4000 first-class and over 1000 List A runs,and took 66 wickets in the two formats combined. [1] His final first-class appearance came in December 2001 at the age of 28.
In 2003,Pratap made allegations that he was asked to bribe a selector to play for India by a person on behalf of the selector. [2] [3]
Pratap later worked as a member of the Ranji team selection committee of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). [4] He also served as the chairman of the junior team selection committee of the HCA. [5]
Wickramasinghe Gallage Pramodya,commonly known as Pramodya Wickramasinghe,is a former Sri Lankan cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm-fast bowler. He was regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in 1990s. He was a member of 1996 Cricket World Cup winning team. He is the current national chief selector of both Sri Lanka men's and women's cricket teams.
Salil Ashok Ankola is a former international cricketer who played one Test match and 20 One Day Internationals (ODIs) from 1989 to 1997 for India. A right-arm fast-medium bowler,he played first-class cricket for Mumbai,regularly opening the bowling. Ankola's consistency for Mumbai team earned him a spot for representing India during their tour of Pakistan in 1989–90. After the first Test match at Karachi,he was dropped for the subsequent matches in the series owing to injuries. After a brief phase of playing first-class cricket,Ankola was called for the Indian ODI team during 1993,eventually led to being a part of the 1996 Cricket World Cup. His reputation as a poor fielder,resulted in being dropped from the side after subsequent series. At 28,Ankola retired from international cricket to pursue acting. Since then he went on to appear in a number of Indian soap operas and a few Bollywood movies. In 2020,he was selected as the chief selector of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
