Vassøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 0.73-square-kilometre (180-acre) island lies in the Storhaug borough, about 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) northeast of the city centre of Stavanger in an archipelago. The islands of Roaldsøy, Bjørnøy, and Langøy lie to the west and the island of Lindøy lies to the southeast. Vassøy had 702 inhabitants (in 2016) [1] who all live along the western shore of the island; the eastern side is more rugged and wooded. The island has a primary school with around 80 pupils. [2]

Stavanger is a city and municipality in Norway. It is the third largest city and metropolitan area in Norway and the administrative centre of Rogaland county. The municipality is the fourth most populous in Norway. Located on the Stavanger Peninsula in Southwest Norway, Stavanger counts its official founding year as 1125, the year the Stavanger Cathedral was completed. Stavanger's core is to a large degree 18th- and 19th-century wooden houses that are protected and considered part of the city's cultural heritage. This has caused the town centre and inner city to retain a small-town character with an unusually high ratio of detached houses, and has contributed significantly to spreading the city's population growth to outlying parts of Greater Stavanger.

Rogaland[²ruːɡɑlɑn](listen) is a county in Western Norway, bordering Hordaland, Telemark, Aust-Agder, and Vest-Agder counties. Rogaland is the center of the Norwegian petroleum industry. In 2016, Rogaland had an unemployment rate of 4.9%, one of the highest in Norway. In 2015, Rogaland had a fertility rate of 1.78 children per woman, which is the highest in the country.

The only access to the island is by private boats or the regular ferry route administered by Kolumbus that goes from Vassøy to the city centre. A bridge connecting Vassøy to either Bjørnøy or Roaldsøy has been approved, but a starting date for construction has not been set. [3]

Kolumbus

Kolumbus AS, formerly Rogaland Kollektivtrafikk FKF, is the public transportation administration in Rogaland, Norway and organised as a county agency. The agency is responsible for planning, marketing and organising the public transport in Rogaland, including buses and passenger ferries, but does not perform any transport itself. Instead it awards public service obligation (PSO) contracts to independent operators. The agency was created on January 1, 2002 and has 35 employees and offices at Byterminalen in Stavanger. All buses operated in Rogaland are branded as Kolumbus and painted green. Before Kolumbus was created, there was several smaller companies who was responsible for the transport in the different parts of Rogaland. However, because of complications with bus lines not overlapping with each other, the bus companies finally decided to unite and become Kolumbus, or Rogaland Kollektivtrafikk as it is also known as.

Stavanger City Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in the city of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The bridge has one tower and it was one of the first larger cable-stayed bridge in Norway when it opened on 31 January 1978. The bridge crosses the Straumsteinsundet strait connecting the city centre of Stavanger to the small islands of Grasholmen and Sølyst. It is the main connection to the whole the borough of Hundvåg which is a series of islands that are all interconnected by small bridges.

Gandsfjord

Gandsfjorden or Gandafjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. The 13-kilometre (8.1 mi) long Gandsfjorden is an arm off of the large Boknafjorden. It runs between the mainland and the Stavanger Peninsula, along the shores of the cities of Stavanger and Sandnes, the third largest urban area in Norway. The entire west side of Gandsfjorden is highly developed and urban. The east side of the fjord has many mountains and peaks. In the outer parts of the fjord there are several islands including Uskjo, Hundvåg, Vassøy, and the Øyane islands of Stavanger.

Hinna is a borough of the city of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The borough includes the southernmost part of the city, bordering the city of Sandnes. Sølyst is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 0.13-square-kilometre (32-acre) island is located in the Buøy neighborhood in the borough of Hundvåg, just north of the city centre of Stavanger. It is connected to mainland Stavanger via the island Grasholmen and the Stavanger City Bridge. The island is hilly and rocky as well as heavily-treed. Most development is located on the south shore.

Bjørnøy, or in some incorrect sources Bjørnøya, is a small island in the city of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is located in the borough of Hundvåg, just east of the larger island of Hundvåg. It is connected by bridge to the island of Hundvåg, and it is also connected to the small islands of Roaldsøy and Ormøy to the south. The island is heavily populated and is covered with houses, although there are still a few larger green spaces left undeveloped.

Øyane is a neighborhood (delområde) in the city of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. It includes many of the islands located to the east of the mainland portion of the city. The northern part includes the eastern half of the island of Åmøy which is in the borough of Tasta and the islands of Bjørnøy, Roadsøy, Ormøy, and Steinsøy are located in the borough of Hundvåg. The rest of Øyane, which includes the islands of Lindøy, Hellesøy, Kalvøy, Vassøy, and Langøy are all sparsely inhabited and not a part of any city borough. The neighborhood's area is 7.8 square kilometres and the population in 2005 was 2,125.

The 0.41-square-kilometre (100-acre) island lies in an archipelago at the mouths of the Gandsfjorden and Høgsfjorden, about 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) east of the city centre of Stavanger. The island lies close between the islands of Lindøy and Kalvøy and together, the three islands form a "neighborhood" within the city of Stavanger. In 2016, the three islands had a total combined population of 26. The island is only accessible by boat.

The 0.58-square-kilometre (140-acre) island lies in an archipelago at the mouths of the Gandsfjorden and Høgsfjorden, about 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) east of the city centre of Stavanger. The island lies just south of the islands of Lindøy and Hellesøy and together, the three islands form a "neighborhood" within the city of Stavanger. In 2016, the three islands had a total combined population of 26. The island is only accessible by boat. The island of Uskjo lies about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) to the south.

Stora Stokkavatnet is a lake in the municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The 2.12-square-kilometre (0.82 sq mi) lake lies just west of the city centre of Stavanger. The lake lies in the northwest part of the municipality and it forms the boundary of the boroughs of Tasta, Eiganes og Våland, and Madla.
