Vennello Aadapilla (transl.Lady in the Moonlight) is a novel written by Telugu-speaking novelist Yandamoori Veerendranath [1] , and published by Nava Sahithi. The novel is written in Telugu and published in the year 2011. The novel has been adapted into a TV series and received the Nandi Award for Best Director.

Plot

Vennello Aadapilla is about a world-class chess player and a telephone conversation with an operator. The story begins with the young chess player Revanth winning the World Chess Championships in Russia. One day, he gets a call from an unknown female fan who wants to congratulate him on his win. During the conversation, the girl challenges him to identify her name and address, and thus sets Revanth on a mission to locate the mysterious girl.

The novel contains puzzles and riddles to keep the reader in suspense and explores themes of dedication and determination shown through the protagonist Revanth.[ citation needed ]

Adaptations

The novel was adapted as a television series of the same name which was aired on DD Saptagiri in the 1990s. [2] The novel was also adapted into the films Hello I Love You (Telugu) and Beladingala Baale (Kannada). [3]

Beladingala Baale is a 1995 Kannada romantic movie directed by Sunil Kumar Desai, starring Anant Nag and Suman Nagarkar. It is based on a Telugu novel titled Vennello Adapilla by Yandamoori Veerendranath which was translated into Kannada by Vamshi titled Beladingala Baale which was also serialised in Sudha, a Kannada weekly magazine. The Kannada and Telugu titles loosely translate to "lady in the moonlight". Vamshi, who translated the novel into Kannada, wrote dialogues for the movie or rather dialogues from the novel are adapted in the film without any modifications. The story revolves around Revanth, a chess grandmaster who is set to find out the identity of his fan, who calls him often and whom he refers to as "Beladingala Baale". Beladingala Baale gives Revanth the clues to find her out. How Revanth accomplishes his task forms the gist of the movie.

Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, also known by the initialism JVAS, is a 1990 Indian Telugu-language fantasy film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao who co-wrote the script with Jandhyala and Yandamuri Veerendranath. The film stars Chiranjeevi and Sridevi while Amrish Puri, Kannada Prabhakar, Allu Ramalingaiah and Rami Reddy play supporting roles. The film is produced by C. Aswani Dutt on Vyjayanthi Movies banner. The plot revolves around a man who finds a ring that gives the bearer great power, but the goddess who lost the ring seeks it back to return to her world.

It was one of the initial novels of Yandamuri that became popular and he was appreciated widely for his narrating style. It was partially inspired by the 1971 bestselling novel The Exorcist. Tulasi Dalam was first adapted into a 1985 Kannada movie titled Thulasidala and later in Telugu as Tulasidalam (1989),in Hindi as Phoonk (2008) and its remake in Telugu as Raksha (2008).In 1986, a story based on this novel called Kashmora was filmed for which Yendamuri Verendranath has worked as writer.

Vennello Hai Hai is a 2016 Telugu-language drama film starring Ajmal Ameer and Nikitha Narayan and directed by Vamsy. It was previously titled as Tanu Monne Vellipoyindi and Mellagaa... Tattindi Manasu Talupu. The film was released on 5 March 2016. The film will be dubbed and released in Tamil as Mella Thiranthathu Manasu. The movie is loosely based on Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy's novel, Meghamala, which was written 40 years before the film was made. The film's title is based on a song from Vamsy's own, Avunu Valliddaru Ista Paddaru! (2002).

Bidugade is a 1973 Indian Kannada language drama film directed by Y. R. Swamy and produced by T. P. Venugopal. It starred Rajkumar, Rajesh and Bharathi along with a host of supporting actors. Minugutare Kalpana made a special appearance in the film. M. Ranga Rao scored the music and the story was written and produced by Ramesh Movies. Chi. Udaya Shankar wrote the lyrics and dialogues. The cinematography by Annayya won him the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Cinematographer award.
