Vera Isaku (12 March 1955 - 22 July 2021) was an Albanian journalist, writer and director of institutions.

Life

Isaku graduated at 1979 in University of Tirana, Faculty of Albanian Linguistics and Literature, one of the first women journalists of the first opposition newspaper in the end of Stalinism in Albania, the Rilindja Demokratike. [1] Vera Isaku held the position of deputy Director of Albanian Radio and Television and the other position as a Director of International Center of Culture at the Pyramid of Tirana. Isaku was the wife of the writer, diplomat and publicist Agim Isaku, ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Bratislava, Slovakia. Isaku lost her life as a result of an incurable disease, from which she suffered for a long time. [2]

Radio Televizioni Shqiptar is the national public broadcasting company of Albania. Founded in 1938, it operates several radio and television channels, over a domestic transmitter network as well as satellite. The international television service via satellite RTSH Sat was launched in 1993 and is aimed at Albanian-speaking communities in Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and northern Greece, plus the Albanian diaspora in the rest of Europe. RTSH is funded by a combination of commercial advertising, an annual licence fee of US$10.00 and grant-in-aid from the Albanian government.

Festivali i Këngës në RTSH, commonly known as Festivali i Këngës and also referred to as simply FiK or Fest, is an annual music competition in Albania organised by the national broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH). Broadcast every year since its inauguration in 1962, the festival has determined the country's representative to the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004.

Elvana Gjata is an Albanian singer, songwriter and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Tirana, she has been referred to as a "Diva of Albanian music". She rose to recognition in Albania and other Albanian-speaking territories in the Balkans following the release of her two studio albums, Mamës (2007) and Afër dhe larg (2011). The singer saw further success through many acclaimed singles, as well as her extended plays 3 (2018) and Çelu (2021), and has achieved multiple number one singles in the Albanian singles chart. Gjata has also received numerous awards and accolades, including two Balkan Music Awards, a Festivali i Këngës Award, four Kënga Magjike Awards and a Top Fest Award.

Albania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna, Austria, with the song "I'm Alive" performed by Elhaida Dani. Dani was chosen through the national selection competition, Festivali i Këngës, organised by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) in December 2014. Dani emerged as the winner of contest with the song "Diell"; however the song withdrawn as the Albanian entry at the request of one of the song's songwriters and replaced with "I'm Alive". Prior to the 2015 contest, Albania had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 11 times since its first entry in 2004.

The Festivali i Këngës 2019 was the 58th edition of the annual Albanian music competition Festivali i Këngës. It was organised by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) at the Pallati i Kongreseve in Tirana, Albania, and consisted of two semi-finals on 19 and 20 December, respectively, and the final on 22 December 2019. The three live shows were hosted by Alketa Vejsiu. The winner of the contest was Arilena Ara with the song "Shaj", after receiving 67 points with two points ahead over Elvana Gjata with the song "Me tana". Ara was then scheduled to represent Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, before its cancellation related to the pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The 2021–22 Kategoria Superiore was the 83rd official season, or 86th season of top-tier football in Albania and the 22nd season under the name Kategoria Superiore. The season began in 10 September 2021 and ended on 26 May 2022. Tirana won the league title on 7 May 2022, with 3 matches to spare.

Festivali i Këngës 2021 was the 60th edition of the annual Albanian music competition Festivali i Këngës. It was organised by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana, Albania, and consisted of two semi-finals on 27 and 28 December, respectively, and the final on 29 December 2021. The three live shows were hosted by Ardit Gjebrea, Isli Islami, Jonida Maliqi, Kelvi Kadilli and Xhemi Shehu. Ronela Hajati with the song "Sekret" emerged as the winner of the contest and represented Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy.

Besim Jazexhiu was an Albanian dancer and choreographer. He began to work as a dancer in 1961 at the Opera Theatre. During this early period, in addition to dancing in the ballet troupe, he performed characters in various ballets including "Halili and Hajria" composed by Tish Daija and said to be the first Albanian ballet, "Delina", "Laurenca", "Fadeta", "Sherazadja", and "Peter and the Wolf". In 1965 he started working as a soloist in the Army Ensemble and then from 1968 as a soloist in the People's Ensemble. In this period, he developed folk dances in the Folk Ensemble and for many amateur artistic troupes. After the 1990s, he also worked in Kosovo and North Macedonia.

Albania competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which was held on 11 December 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia. Kejtlin Gjata was selected to represent the country with the song "Pakëz diell" through the national selection competition Junior Fest 2022, organised on 25 October 2022 by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH).
