The Moscow International Film Festival is a film festival first held in Moscow in 1935 and became regular since 1959. From its inception to 1959, it was held every second year in July, alternating with the Karlovy Vary festival. The festival has been held annually since 1999. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIAPF paused the accreditation of the festival until further notice.

Věra Chytilová was an avant-garde Czech film director and pioneer of Czech cinema. For her work, she received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Medal of Merit and the Czech Lion award.

Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón is a Spanish screenwriter and film director. His 1973 film Habla, mudita was entered into the 23rd Berlin International Film Festival. In 1977, he won the Silver Bear for Best Director for Camada negra at the 27th Berlin International Film Festival. His 1979 film El corazón del bosque was entered into the 29th Berlin International Film Festival. Two years later, his film Maravillas was entered into the 31st Berlin International Film Festival. His 1982 film Demons in the Garden was entered into the 13th Moscow International Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. In 1991 he was a member of the jury at the 17th Moscow International Film Festival.
Stanislavsky Award is a special prize awarded since 2001 at the Moscow International Film Festival for the outstanding achievement in the career of acting and devotion to the principles of Stanislavski's school.
Angeliki Antoniou is a Greek film director, screenwriter and producer. She studied architecture in Greece and film direction at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. The Inugamis is a 2006 Japanese drama film written and directed by Kon Ichikawa. It is a remake of his own 1976 film The Inugami Family, and would prove to be Ichikawa's final film. A few minutes' footage of Ichikawa at work directing can be seen in the 2006 documentary The Kon Ichikawa Story. The film was entered into the 29th Moscow International Film Festival.
Maria. Save Moscow is a 2021 Russian war / drama film directed by Vera Storozheva. It premiered at the Stalker Film Festival on December 12, 2021, and was theatrically released on January 27, 2022.
