Veritas is the fourth studio album by Swedish recording artist Agnes, and was released on 5 September 2012 in Sweden. [1] [2] The album was released worldwide on 1 April 2014.
The Swedish tabloid Expressen stated that the album was to be released within the first six months of 2011, [3] but was later delayed for a year until "during the spring 2012". [4] The first official single was "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" which premiered on 5 August 2011 at Mr. Gay Sweden Show. This was later considered an intermediate release and was only featured as a bonus track on the French deluxe edition of the album.
On 28 May 2012, Agnes released the lead single, "One Last Time", unlike her previous singles, this was released in Sweden only. [5] In an interview with "Mix Megapol" Agnes also said that her goal with the fourth album was to be involved with all the songs. Her American record company Interscope wanted her to move to the U.S and record the album there, but Agnes didn't feel "at home" and couldn't find the people that she wanted to work with. Therefore, she decided to go back to Sweden and record her album there. [6]
In early August 2012 a release date was finally confirmed and later on August 14 the title and artwork of the album was officially announced. [1] In a press release from the record company Agnes commented on the album name; "I like how the word 'Veritas' subside, aesthetically how it looks and especially what it stands for. The word fits very well with the whole idea behind this album. I always want to be one hundred percent true to myself in everything I do, and for me, all the work and time with this album has been so much more than just record an album. A lot of questions, both large and small, have come up in my head and it really has been an amazing journey. " [7]
The artwork consists of the photographs, where the one in the background is taken from a photoshoot with Swedish magazine "Nöjesguiden" in December 2011 by photograph Frederick Etoall. The photo was then featured in an article titled "Släpp Agnes fri" (eng: Release Agnes) and also used as the cover of the December issue of the magazine. [8] The idea behind the cover was to radiate a collision between soft and hard. The photographer Frederick Etoall came up with the idea to project a portrait of Agnes on her naked body. When commenting on the cover in an interview with Metro International Agnes said that she was very pleased with the result; "I'm very happy, the lips look almost painted out. I was naked and we projected my face against a wall. It was a hell of a job getting the lips so that they covered her breasts but I had a lot of people there who saw that it was so". [9]
In an early review by Scandipop, they commented on the song "Into the Sun" and stated that it "straight away stood out as one of our big favourites on 'Veritas'. It's got a chorus that hits you like a truck, and a production that shines through particularly in the verses, which makes you pick yourself up off the floor again." They also homage the fact that Patrik Berger, the writer behind Robyn's monster hit "Dancing on My Own", now has taken an interest for Agnes on this album. [10] The british music blog The Prophet Blog stated that they had underestimated Agnes as some generic pop singer who belong in gay nightclubs and that she deserves more recognition and homage the single "One Last Time". "The producer Quant serves up a cunning surprise on the song]s bridge, fooling you for a split second into thinking a dubstep breakdown is about to take place, right before dropping a thundering drum line that leads into Agnes screaming, her voice distorted and twisted until she sounds like an android dying of a broken heart." [11] Scandipop later refer to the songs on the album to be "A militant electrodisco production".
Agnes has self stated that many of her lyrics are inspired by real life events. "Nothing Else Matters" for example is based on an event that occurred when Agnes was fifteen years old. A relative of hers became seriously ill, and she and her family lived in uncertainty for a while, and the only thing she had on her mind what that nothing else would matter if that person wouldn't get better. It is far from any straightforward love stories Agnes describes on her album. "All I Want Is You" is feverish, and ambiguous, perhaps a declaration of love, but equally a story of obsession. "Watching It Burn" is about the heartbreaking moment when you realize that everything has gone wrong, but you doesn't have the energy to stop the relationship from falling apart. "Got Me Good" is a glimpse into the uniquely human habit of falling in love, or cutter, in someone who does not reciprocate the affection. But there's humor too, "Human Touch" is about the first love, when pesky happy smile refuses to leave his face, and "Like God" is Agnes ironic interpretation of American celebrity worship. When describing the feelings behind the song "Amazing", Agnes described it as "when that little maniac who had been hiding inside finally can take place." [12]

The album received generally positive reviews from music critics. Joacim Persson of Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet gave the album three out of five and courts Agnes' voice, though he raises a warning finger. "The concern with sweet, wailing, soul singers is that their voices are often so beautiful rippling that nothing stands out. Agnes, one of those 'idol' alumnus who have done something real in their career after Idol, could be such an artist. She has even been sometimes. But "Veritas" is something else. For it is when the plaster cracks on the edge, when Agnes dare to make a mess, that it really starts to happen something with the music. The stylish talented voice, she already has." He continue with calling Agnes' voice sharp and raw and relate that to what is separating anonymous contemporary pop from the excitement. "It exudes confidence and determination. It is 2012, but bottoms in the R & B classic frame that Agnes has made her brand." [13] Camilla Diaz of Gaffa continues on the track that Persson started, she stated that the album has one foot in the eighties and one in the present days. "'Loaded' has a refrain that not only breathes 80s but also sparkles with 00's. Agnes do not apologize for itself, but requires space, requires the listener to stop. Resting the voice in the break between songs, exploding in the choruses." [15] Johan Lindqvist of Göteborgs-Posten continues on the same track. "Many international artists are trying to do just this thing, but does not succeed as well as Agnes. I am impressed by a more or less seamless pop album with one leg in 1987 and the second in 2012 " [16]
Peter Carlsson of Nerikes Allehanda wrote a mixed review stating that the sound of the album is "something of a cross between Robyn and Kylie Minogue." He also thought several songs on the album could find their ways into the charts easily, however felt that the album was lacking a hit like, Release Me. [14]
The Swedish music magazine "Gaffa" salutes the album and Agnes herself. "For those who believe that they've heard everything that Agnes is and can accomplish in the theatrical choruses in One Last Time will be surprised. Maybe especially when the direction changed completely in All I Want Is You, which, with its angry strings and strange non chorus unravels everything you previously knew." [15]
The first single from the album, "One Last Time", was released on 28 May 2012 and peaked at the official chart in Sweden at 33, and at 1 on the download chart. The single spent the summer within the top ten at the official airplay chart. On 27 August Agnes confirmed her next single, called "All I Want Is You", and revealed the official cover artwork at her official Facebook page. The single is scheduled for release in Sweden on August 31. The track had its first play on radio on August 28. [18] On 10 May 2013, Swedish producer Bassflow tweeted that he had finished the new version of "Got Me Good", implying that the song is the new single from the album. [19]

The Cardigans are a Swedish rock band formed in Jönköping, Sweden, in 1992 by guitarist Peter Svensson, bassist Magnus Sveningsson, drummer Bengt Lagerberg, keyboardist Lars-Olof Johansson and lead singer Nina Persson. Post-hiatus shows since 2012 have been with Oskar Humlebo on guitar instead of Svensson.

Agnes Emilia Carlsson, known mononymously as Agnes, is a Swedish recording artist and songwriter. She rose to fame as the winner of Idol 2005, the second season of the Swedish Idol series. She was then signed to Sony Music, through which she released her self-titled debut album, Agnes, and follow-up, Stronger, both of which topped the Swedish Top 60 Albums Chart. In early 2008, it was announced that Agnes had parted ways with her record label, and was now signed to small independent label Roxy Recordings. Released on 28 October 2008, her third album, Dance Love Pop, reached number five in Sweden, 70 in Austria, 38 in France, 45 in Switzerland and 13 in the United Kingdom. With 200,000 albums sold worldwide this is her most successful album, 50,000 albums were sold in France, 40,000 in Sweden. Its first two singles, "On and On" and "Release Me" became international hits, reaching the top-ten in charts worldwide. "Release Me" topped the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs and peaked at three in the United Kingdom, selling over 900,000 copies worldwide.
Ola Nils Håkan Svensson is a Swedish artist and songwriter, known professionally by the mononym Ola until 2014, and as Brother Leo from 2018 to present. Born in Lund, Skåne, his career began in 2005, when he finished eighth on season two of Swedish Idol. Since then, Ola has released four studio albums. Eleven of his singles have reached the top five on the Swedish singles chart, with six achieving number one, and nine attaining gold and platinum certifications. After being signed to Universal Music for many years, Ola founded his own record label Oliniho Records for the Swedish market, keeping distribution arrangements with Sony Music in Europe and internationally. Following a four-year break, he returned in 2018, recording under the stage name Brother Leo for Columbia Records.
"Electric" is a song by Swedish singer Robyn from her second studio album, My Truth (1999). It was released as the album's lead single on 29 April 1999 by BMG Sweden. Robyn wrote the track in collaboration with its producers Ulf Lindström and Johan Ekhé. The single artwork features the singer wearing a feather headpiece designed by Sebastian Wahl. Musically, "Electric" is an electronic funk song, and the lyrics address unexpected life events that make one feel alive.
Dance Love Pop is the third studio album by Swedish singer Agnes, released originally on 29 October 2008 in Sweden. This was Agnes' first studio album since 2006 and her comeback to the music stage. The album is written and produced by Swedish songwriter Anders Hansson and geared towards the dance and club genre. When released the first single "On and On" it immediately showed a clear change of artistic direction for her music. This was clearly observed by the critics who all homaged her new musical style. In Sweden, a deluxe edition of the album titled Dance Love Pop: The Love Love Love Edition was released, featuring the original 10 tracks plus new song "Love Love Love", of which Agnes competed with in the Swedish drafts for Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow. The deluxe edition also included remixes and music videos of the album's singles and re-entered the official Swedish Top 60 Album Chart peaking at number 12. A re-release of the album was also made in France, where the "Edition Collector" was released on 18 January 2010 and peaked at forty-seven.

Charm School is the eighth studio album by Swedish pop duo Roxette, released on 11 February 2011 by Roxette Recordings and Capitol. It was their first studio album since 2001's Room Service, and their first since vocalist Marie Fredriksson's brain tumour diagnosis in 2002. "She's Got Nothing On " preceded the album as its lead single, which became the duo's highest-peaking single in almost two decades in territories such as Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The song also entered Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart—making Roxette the only duo who appeared on that chart in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s.
Tove Anna Linnéa Östman Styrke is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She gained popularity as a contestant on Swedish Idol 2009, finishing in third place. After the show, she started a solo career in electropop. She released her debut album Tove Styrke in 2010. The New York Post included Styrke in its list of "10 Artists to Know in 2011". In 2015, she released her second album, Kiddo. Three years later, in 2018, she released her third album, Sway. Throughout the 2010s Styrke gained an increasing critical acclaim as an independent artist resulting in her single "Say My Name" being included in Rolling Stone's 100 best songs of the decade.
"Jag kommer" is a song that was recorded by Swedish singer Veronica Maggio and is included on her third studio album Satan i gatan (2011). Maggio co-wrote the song with Steffan Olsson and the track's producer Christian Walz. On 10 February 2011, it was released to contemporary hit radio stations in Sweden as the album's lead single. The track is a pop rock song about the beginning of a relationship. Some music critics noted a double entendre in the lyrics, though according to Maggio, the song's meaning is open to interpretation. It also attracted accusations of plagiarism of the Strokes' "Reptilia" from the Swedish public, which the singer denied.

The song was first heard and revealed as a single during the Stockholm Pride festival on August 5, 2011 The song is written by Agnes, Vincent Pontare, Magnus Lidehäll, The Nervo Twins and produced by Vincent Pontare and Magnus Lidehäll. A music video for the single release was shot on September 12, 2011 and directed by Mikeadelica.
Travelling: Songs from Studios, Stages, Hotelrooms & Other Strange Places is the ninth studio album by Swedish pop duo Roxette, released on 23 March 2012 by Roxette Recordings and Capitol. It is a direct sequel to their 1992 album Tourism. Unlike that album, which was recorded in numerous locations all over the world during the "Join the Joyride! Tour", Travelling was primarily recorded in Swedish studios in-between legs of "The Neverending World Tour". The album also contains three live recordings and four studio re-recordings of older songs, two of which were previously unreleased.
"Vårens första dag" is a song by Swedish singer-songwriter Laleh, taken as the second single from her fourth studio album, Sjung. It was released on 30 April 2012. The indie pop song was written and produced by Laleh, in collaboration with Gustaf Thörn, with whom she had a few production sessions for the album. The single was sent out to radio in mid-March following the success "Some Die Young" had on both Swedish and Norwegian airplay and sales charts, being a number-one hit in Norway for weeks. The single peaked at number nineteen on the Swedish DigiListan.

Le Kid is a Swedish pop band formed in 2008 consisting of Johanna Berglund, Helena Lillberg, Märta Grauers & Felix Persson. In 2010 they had their biggest hit with their first single "Mercy Mercy". They took part in the 2011 Melodifestivalen with the song “Oh My God” and later that year they released their first studio album called “Oh Alright!”.
Icona Pop are a Swedish electropop duo which formed in 2009, with electro house and indie pop music influences. Its two members, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, grew up in Stockholm and create what the Swedish press has described as music which "you can both laugh and cry to at the same time". They signed to TEN Music Group in 2009 and are currently also in a label deal with Ultra Music. Their biggest hit to date has been "I Love It".

"Got Me Good" is a song by Swedish recording artist Agnes from her fourth studio album Veritas. The song was released as the third single from the album in Sweden on 27 May 2013. After its first week of release the single entered the official download chart in Sweden at 53, this without any promotion.
"The Sweet Hello, The Sad Goodbye" is a song by Swedish pop duo Roxette, written by Per Gessle and recorded in the spring of 1990 for their third studio album Joyride. However, the song was excluded from the album, and was instead recorded by former Modern Talking vocalist Thomas Anders, who in April 1991 issued his version as the lead single from his solo album Whispers. Six months later, Roxette released their original recording as a limited edition promotional single exclusively in Sweden. In 1993, a version produced by Phil Ramone was recorded by American singer Laura Branigan for her seventh studio album, Over My Heart. The same year, Phil Thornalley produced a version for Jason Donovan, which was included as a b-side to his single "All Around the World".
