"Love Love Love" is a song by Swedish singer Agnes and was her entrant in Sweden's Eurovision Song Contest selection process Melodifestivalen. After proceeding to the final from the fourth semi-final, the song placed eighth out of the eleven entries. "Love Love Love" is written by Anders Hansson and was released as a one track CD single by Roxy Recordings, in addition to being included on the "Love Love Love Edition" of Agnes' 2008 album Dance Love Pop and serving as the album's third single.

Background and Melodifestivalen

Agnes began her musical career in 2005 when she won Idol 2005 , a Swedish singing competition based on the British show Pop Idol . She subsequently released three studio albums and attempted to take part in Melodifestivalen 2007, the Swedish selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest. Details of her participation were leaked, a violation of contest rules, and she was disqualified. [1]

On 14 October 2008, two years after her first attempt, it was announced that Agnes was to take part in Melodifestivalen 2009 with the disco pop song "Love Love Love". [2] The song is written by Anders Hansson, who also wrote Agnes' third studio album Dance Love Pop from which the song is a bonus track on the re-release. [3] At first, it was said that the song was to be performed as a duet with fellow Swedish pop singer Marie Serneholt, but it did not materialize, as Serneholt decided to compete in the contest on her own. Agnes appeared at the fourth semi-final of the contest, held on 28 February 2009 at the Malmö Arena and competed against seven other entrants. [5] Agnes presented "Love Love Love" first on the night, and for her performance, she appeared on stage in an "eye-catching" gold sequined skin-tight outfit and was alone at first in front of a skyscraper backdrop before being joined by six dancers. [1] [6] [7] The song made the top four and was selected to duel against the Star Pilots' "Higher", with one song going to the final and the other to the "Second Chance" round. "Love Love Love" received 66,740 televotes versus the Star Pilots' 54,785, winning the duel and gaining a spot in the final. [8] [9]

At the Melodifestivalen final, held on March 14 at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, "Love Love Love" was presented third out of the eleven participants and Agnes executed a repeat performance of her show at the semi-final. [10] When the results were announced, she received forty points in total, all from the regional juries, placing her eighth. [11]

Release

"Love Love Love" was first heard in the form of a one-minute clip on 27 February 2009, the day before Agnes appeared in the fourth semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2009; it was available on the website of Sveriges Television, the organizer of Melodifestivalen. [12] The song was released to radio stations the following day on February 28 after the semi-final, in line with the Contest's rules. It then became available as a two–track CD single on 2 March 2009 and a one–track digital download on 1 March 2009 along with many of the other songs in the Contest. The song serves as the third single from Dance Love Pop and is included on the "Love Love Love Edition" re-release which was released on 1 April 2009.

Chart performance

The song debuted on the Swedish Singles Chart on the week of 6 March 2009 at number 28, and peaked the following week at number four, before falling to number 11, 16, 18, 26, and then 34 in the succeeding weeks. [13] "Love Love Love" continued its descent in the charts in its eighth and ninth weeks, charting at 37 and 55 respectively, before leaving after nine consecutive weeks. [13]

Måns Petter Albert Sahlén Zelmerlöw is a Swedish pop singer and television presenter. He took part in Idol 2005, eventually finishing fifth, won the first season of Let's Dance, and scored a hit with his 2007 song "Cara Mia", which was his entry in that year's Melodifestivalen. Zelmerlöw was the host of Allsång på Skansen from 2011 to 2013. He participated in Melodifestivalen in 2007, 2009 and won in 2015. Zelmerlöw represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Heroes", winning the contest with 365 points. Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 held in Stockholm.

Russia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. The Russian entry was selected through a national final, Evrovidenie 2008 organised by the Russian broadcaster Rossiya Channel (RTR). Dima Bilan represented Russia with the song "Believe", which qualified from the first semi-final of the competition and won the contest, placing 1st in the final with 272 points.

Norway participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Hold On Be Strong" written by Mira Craig. The song was performed by Maria Haukaas Storeng. NRK organised the national final Melodi Grand Prix 2008 in order to select the Norwegian entry for the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia. "Hold On Be Strong" performed by Mira Craig was selected as the winner following a five-week-long competition consisting of three semi-finals, a Second Chance round and the final.

The Icelandic entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia was selected through the national final Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2009, organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection consisted of four semi-finals and a final, held on 10 January, 17 January, 24 January, 31 January and 14 February 2009, respectively. Four songs competed in each semi-final with the top two as selected by a public televote advancing to the final. Romania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Russia. They selected their entry, "The Balkan Girls", by Romanian singer Elena through the national selection competition Selecția Națională 2009 organised by Romanian Television (TVR) in January 2009. Prior to the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, Romania competed eleven times since its first entry in 1994. Its highest placing in the contest had been third place, which the nation achieved in 2005. In 2008, Romania finished in 20th place. "The Balkan Girls" attained local commercial success, topping the Romanian Top 100 in April.

Germany won the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, which was held in May 2010 in Oslo, Norway. The country's entry was selected in a series of competitive heats and a national final – Unser Star für Oslo – which was organised jointly by the public broadcasters ARD and NDR and the private television channel ProSieben, together with the three-time Eurovision participant for Germany and music producer, Stefan Raab.

Malta participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song "My Dream" written by Jason Cassar and Sunny Aquilina. The song was performed by Thea Garrett. The Maltese entry for the 2010 contest in Oslo, Norway was selected through the national final The GO Malta Eurosong 2010, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The competition consisted of a semi-final round and a final, held between 9 December 2009 and 20 February 2010, where "My Dream" performed by Thea Garrett eventually emerged as the winning entry after scoring the most points from a five-member jury and a public televote.
