Edgefield County is a county located on the western border of the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census,its population was 25,657. Its county seat and largest community is Edgefield. The county was established on March 12,1785.
Clemson University is a public land-grant research university in Clemson,South Carolina. Founded in 1889,Clemson is the second-largest university by enrollment in South Carolina. For the fall 2019 semester,the university enrolled a total of 20,195 undergraduate students and 5,627 graduate students,and the student/faculty ratio was 18:1. Clemson's 1,400-acre (570 ha) campus is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The campus now borders Lake Hartwell,which was formed by the dam completed in 1962. The university manages the nearby 17,500-acre (7,100 ha) Clemson Experimental Forest that is used for research,education,and recreation.
Benjamin Ryan Tillman was a politician of the Democratic Party who served as governor of South Carolina from 1890 to 1894,and as a United States Senator from 1895 until his death in 1918. A white supremacist who opposed civil rights for black Americans,Tillman led a paramilitary group of Red Shirts during South Carolina's violent 1876 election. On the floor of the U.S. Senate,he defended lynching,and frequently ridiculed black Americans in his speeches,boasting of having helped kill them during that campaign.
Thomas Green Clemson was an American politician and statesman,serving as Chargés d'Affaires to Belgium,and United States Superintendent of Agriculture. He served in the Confederate Army and founded Clemson University in South Carolina. Historians have called Clemson "a quintessential nineteenth-century Renaissance man."
Louis Trezevant Wigfall was an American politician who served as a Confederate States Senator from Texas from 1862 to 1865. He was among a group of leading secessionists known as Fire-Eaters,advocating the preservation and expansion of an aristocratic agricultural society based on slave labor. He briefly served as a Confederate Brigadier General of the Texas Brigade at the outset of the American Civil War before taking his seat in the Confederate Senate. Wigfall's reputation for oratory and hard-drinking,along with a combative nature and high-minded sense of personal honor,made him one of the more imposing political figures of his time. He was also a slave owner.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) is the largest college of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The college was established in 1913 through the merger of the College of Literature and Arts and the College of Science. The college offers seventy undergraduate majors, as well as master's and Ph.D. programs. As of 2020,there are nearly 12,000 undergraduate students and 2,500 graduate students attending the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

In addition,he has authored more than 200 scholarly articles on these and many other subjects. From 2017 - 2022,Finkelman served as the President and Chancellor of Gratz College,Melrose Park,Pennsylvania.
The 1876 South Carolina gubernatorial election was held on November 7,1876,to select the governor of the state of South Carolina. The election campaign was a referendum on the Radical Republican-led state government and their Reconstruction policies. Opponents disputed the challenger Wade Hampton III's victory,gained by a margin of little more than 1100 votes statewide. But he took office in April 1877,after President Hayes withdrew federal troops as a result of a national Democratic compromise,and the incumbent Daniel Henry Chamberlain left the state.

Alonzo Sheck "Shack" Shealy was an American college football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Clemson University in 1904 and is the only Clemson graduate to be head football coach of his alma mater. A member of Clemson's first football team in 1896,Shealy served as team captain in 1898.

Apparao M Rao is the Robert A. Bowen Endowed Professor of Physics in the department of physics and astronomy,the founding director of the Clemson Nanomaterials Institute,and a former associate dean for discovery in the college of science at Clemson University. His research in nanoscience and nanotechnology has been cited over 52,000 times in open literature and his h-index is 95. He was elected as a fellow of the American Physical Society in 2008,the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2011,the National Academy of Inventors in 2018,and the Materials Research Society in 2020. In 2012,he received the Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievements in Research,and has served on the Advisory Panel for the Dean and the Vice-President of Research,Clemson University. His research and development efforts led to the establishment of Clemson Nanomaterials Institute,which supports sustainable research and development capacity and competitiveness in the U.S. and the State of South Carolina.
Mar Hicks is a historian of technology,gender and modern Europe,notable for their work on the history of women in computing. Hicks is a professor at the University of Virginia’s School of Data Science. Hicks wrote the 2017 book,Programmed Inequality:How Britain Discarded Women Technologists and Lost Its Edge in Computing.
Joseph Drew Lanham is an American author,poet and wildlife biologist who in 2022 entered the MacArthur Fellows Program for his work "combining conservation science with personal,historical,and cultural narratives of nature." Raised in Edgefield,South Carolina,Lanham studied zoology and ecology at Clemson University,where he earned a PhD in 1997. Lanham received his B.A. and M.S. in zoology,and his Ph.D. in Forest Resources. He also currently holds an endowed chair as an Alumni Distinguished Professor. He was also named an alumni master teacher in 2012. He is currently a professor of wildlife science and teaches several classes and lectures on birding. He describes his work in his own words as:"’Connecting the conservation dots’is how I envision my research mission. My past work has focused on the impacts of forest management and other human activities on songbirds,herpetofauna,small mammals and butterflies. More recently I've begun to investigate how ethnicity relate to wildlife and other conservation issues. I'm also interested in how birders and hunters might bridge philosophical gaps to effect conservation in a more holistic way."
