The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University is the executive head of the University. [2] Upon the VC's appointment by the Governor of Lagos State, [3] the VC has the overall responsibility for the policy and administration of the University. The Governor of Lagos state appointed Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello as the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University on 16 September 2021. [4] [5]

Lagos State University, also known as LASU, is located in Ojo, with sub-campuses at Ikeja and Epe both towns in Lagos State, Nigeria. The university was established in 1983 by the enabling law of Lagos State, for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence; its motto being For Truth and Service. The university caters for over 35,000 students. The University was established during the Administration of Late Lateef Kayode Jakande. The university offers diploma, degree and post graduate programmes, including an MBA programme. LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020. On 23 June, 2021 LASU emerged as the best young university in Nigeria having been below the age of 50 years to be added. Times Higher Education ranked the Lagos State University as the second best university in Nigeria on the 2 September 2020, and was the only state university included in the rankings for 2022. The university has attracted international funding, including for the establishment of a World Bank Group Africa Centre for Excellence on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Attahiru Muhammadu Jegapronunciation is a Nigerian academic and former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano. On 8 June 2010, he was nominated by then President Goodluck Jonathan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), subject to Senate confirmation, as a replacement for Professor Maurice Iwu, who vacated the post on 28 April 2010. Jega was the only INEC chairman to oversee two Nigerian General Elections. Jega retired on 30 June 2015, handing over his position to Amina Zakari according to a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Charles Korede Ayo is a Nigerian academic, administrator and former vice-chancellor of the Covenant University. Prior to succeeding Aize Obayan as Vice Chancellor, he was the head of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences. Kadri Obafemi HamzatListen is a Nigerian politician who serves as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria into the family of Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat and Late Alhaja Kehinde Hamzat from Iga Egbe, Lagos state. His father, Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat served as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and as a Commissioner for Transportation in the state before becoming the Vice-chairman SW of then Alliance for Democracy(AD). Olatunji Hamzat became the Lagos West Senatorial District leader of the Action Congress and a crowned king through his maternal royal lineage.

Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun is a Nigerian lawyer, academic, author, investor, professor of environmental law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He served as the 8th substantive vice-chancellor of Lagos State University between 11 January 2016 to 10 January 2021. His administration as LASU's vice chancellor witnessed tremendous gains in research, innovations and infrastructural development – which helped to propel the university from obscurity to the second best university in Nigeria according to the 2021 Times Higher Education ranking. He was appointed by the governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode to succeed professor John Obafunwa, a Nigerian pathologist whose tenure ended on 31 October 2015. His appointment was lauded by the Lagos State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The association through the chapter chairman pledge their full support for good administration.

Abisogun Leigh is a Nigerian academic and administrator. He was the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University from 2001–2005. He succeeded Fatiu Ademola Akesode who died before the end of his tenure in March 2001; and was appointed by Bola Tinubu.

Ibiyemi Samuel Tunji was a Nigerian academic, lecturer, Professor of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. He is the second Vice-Chancellor of the Achievers University, Owo Ondo State. He was appointed on 1 April 2014 to succeed Professor Johnson Odebiyi, the pioneer Vice-chancellor, whose tenure started in 2008 and ended in 2014.
