Vicente Alves de Oliveira (born 1 October 1957) is a Brazilian politician. He had represented Tocantins in the Brazilian Senate from 2011 to 2019. Previously he was a deputy from Tocantins from 2007 to 2011. He is a member of the Liberal Party (PL). [1] [2] [3]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 Tocantins gubernatorial special election</span>

The 2018 Tocantins gubernatorial special election was summoned by the Superior Electoral Court after the decision that removed the Governor and Vice Governor of Tocantins, who won the 2014 election, by the allegation of abuse of economic power. In the face of such sentence, the President of the Legislative Assembly, Mauro Carlesse, took office as Acting Governor until a new voting decided who would command the state government. Altogether, seven candidacies were registered for the election. Carlesse ran for Governor and defeated Senator Vicentinho Alves in the second round with more than 75% of the valid votes. The term of Carlesse ends on 1 January 2019, when the Governor-elect in the October election will take office.

Auxílio Brasil was the social welfare program of the Government of Brazil, created during the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro. Announced in October 2021, the provisional measure was sanctioned by Bolsonaro after passing through both legislative houses on 30 December 2021, replacing Bolsa Família. However, after Lula's reelection as president of Brazil in 2022, he declared that he would rename the program to Bolsa Família, putting an end to Auxílio Brasil.

Proposals for the creation of federative units in Brazil are currently under discussion and in different stages of processing in the National Congress. The creation of 18 new states and three new federal territories were officially proposed, which would bring the total number of federative units to 48. The region with the largest number of federative units would be the North region, while the South region would be the only one with a new federative unit. The states with the most advanced stage of creation are Gurgueia and Maranhão do Sul both in the Northeast region.
