Victoria Garcia Wilburn is an American occupational therapist and politician serving as member of the Indiana House of Representatives for the 32nd district. She assumed office on November 9,2022.
Wilburn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from Boston University,followed by a Master of Health Science and Doctor of Health Science from the University of Indianapolis. [1]
Wilburn worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Indianapolis from 2012 and 2014 and as an assistant professor and academic fieldwork coordinator from 2014 to 2016. She was a visiting professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis in 2017 and became an assistant professor in 2018. [2] Wilburn was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in November 2022. [3]
Occupational therapy (OT) is a healthcare profession that involves the use of assessment,intervention,consultation,and coaching to develop,recover,or maintain meaningful occupations of individuals,groups,or communities. The field of OT consists of health care practitioners trained and educated to support mental health and physical performance. Occupational therapists specialize in teaching,educating,and supporting participation in activities that occupy an individual's time. It is an independent health profession sometimes categorized as an allied health profession and consists of occupational therapists (OTs) and occupational therapy assistants (OTAs). OTs and OTAs have different roles,with OTs licensed to complete comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations. Both professionals work with people who want to improve their ability to participate in meaningful occupations.
Julia May Carson was an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Indiana's 7th congressional district from 1997 until she died in 2007. Carson was the first woman and first African American to represent Indianapolis in the U.S. Congress.
