Vidarbha Rajya Nirman Congress is a political party in the Indian state of Maharashtra. VRNC works for statehood for the Vidarbha region. [1] [2]

VRNC was launched by two former Congress Party union ministers, Vasant Sathe and N. K. P. Salve, on August 18, 2003 and is also a member of the National Front for New States. [3]

Samyukta Maharashtra Movement was an organisation that, starting on 6 February 1956, demanded the creation of a separate Marathi-speaking state out of the (then-bilingual) State of Bombay in western India, with the city of Bombay as its capital. Similarly, in 1956 the Mahagujarat Movement started agitation for creation of separate Gujarati-speaking State out of Bombay State, which became the state of Gujarat.

Vidarbha Janata Congress is a political party in the Indian state of Maharashtra. VJC was launched on 9 September 2002 by a former Member of Parliament Jambuwantrao Dhote. The party was formed to demand statehood for the Vidarbha region separate from Maharashtra.

The Vidarbha movement includes political activities organised by various individuals, organizations and political parties, for creation of an independent state of Vidarbha, within the republic of India. The proposed state corresponds to the eastern 11 districts of the state of Maharashtra. It makes up for 31% of area and 21% of population of the present state of Maharashtra.The area is covered by thick tropical forests and is surplus in electricity, minerals, rice and cotton.

Annabhau Sathe A social reformer and writer from Maharashtra, India

Tukaram Bhaurao Sathe, popularly known as Annabhau Sathe, was a social reformer, communist folk poet, and writer from Maharashtra, India. Sathe was a Dalit born into the untouchable Mang community, and his upbringing and identity were central to his writing and political activism. Sathe was a Marxist-Ambedkarite mosaic, initially influenced by the communists but he later became an Ambedkarite. He is credited as a founding father of 'Dalit Literature'.

Narendra Kumar Salve better known as N. K. P. Salve, was a veteran Indian politician from Indian National Congress, parliamentarian and a cricket administrator. Former Union minister and president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) (1982–1985), he was instrumental in bringing the Cricket World Cup outside England and to the Indian subcontinent in 1987. Salve was a staunch advocate for the separate statehood of Vidarbha.

The Bahujan Republican Ekta Manch (BREM) is a regional political party from Maharashtra, India, led by Sulekha Kumbhare. 'Ranjeet Deshmukh, who has served as the agriculture minister in the Vilasrao Deshmukh cabinet between 1999-2004, had also held other portfolios. He had held the position as state unit president of the party on two occasions was the president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). He was first elected to the MLA in 1985 from the Savner constituency.

Madhukar Sathe is an Indian former cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

Local elections were held in Maharashtra in four phases, to select the 4,750 members of the 192 municipal councils and 20 Nagar Panchayat. Results were announced the day after each round of voting. The first phase took place on 27 November and saw the BJP emerge as the largest party in municipal councils, winning control of 53 of the 147 councils and winning 857 of the 3,417 seats. The Indian National Congress emerged as the largest party in Nagar Panchayat elections, winning 84 of the 253 seats on 18 Nagar Panchayats.
