VHS was founded in the 19th century and had its first graduating class in 1895. [4]
In 2016, the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation and the USDA partnered with VHS to install free solar panels at the school for students to get hands-on training and certification to install solar panels.

David Hill serves as the baseball coach at Vienna High school and has served in the role since 2003-04 season. [5] His career record following the 2018-2019 season stands at 235-227 with 2 Regional Championships to his credit. All-time, the program is 1192-749 dating back to 1952 with 9 Regional Titles, 1 Sectional, and 1 State Finals appearance in 1978.
William Fremd High School, or Fremd, is a public four-year high school located in Palatine, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Township High School District 211, which also includes James B. Conant High School, Hoffman Estates High School, Palatine High School, and Schaumburg High School. Academically, Fremd High School has also been recognized by Newsweek as one of "America's Best High Schools" and by U.S. News & World Report as one of 99 outstanding high schools in the United States with the average AP test taker in the class of 2018 taking 5.4 exams. Fremd serves the portion of Palatine that is southwest of the UP NW Line railroad tracks as well as north Hoffman Estates, west Rolling Meadows, north Schaumburg, east South Barrington and southeast Inverness. Gary Lagesse is a former athletic director, head softball coach, team advisor and current sporting goods sales representative. He served as the head softball coach for Thornwood High School from 1977 - 2006 winning State Championships in 1990, 1991 and 1998. He founded and operated the Illinois Outlaws travel softball program where he won the Amateur Softball Association 18U National Championship in 2008. He holds a career record at the varsity level of 694 wins and 301 losses. He was inducted into the Illinois High School Association Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002.
