Vijay Gaur is an artist from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh who comes from a family of idol-makers and he holds national record for painting 3,500 images of Lord Ganesha at Siddhi Vinayak Temple, Mumbai and he painted these images in 51 hours continuously in 2009 [1] His achievement is recorded in Limca Book of Records. [1] He has produced more than 2 lakhs images or drawings of Ganesha in sketches, oil paintings, collages, stone etc. [1]

Kittur Chennamma Statue

He has sculpted statue of Kittur Chennamma, which was installed in the Parliament House complex at New Delhi on 11 September 2007 and unveiled by President of India, Pratibha Patil. [2] The statue measures 13 feet 7 inches in height and 5 feet 2 inches in breadth and weighs four tons and depicts the Rani Chennamma in astride position on a horse. [3]

Sangolli Rayanna

Sangolli Rayanna was an Indian military Shetsanadi (Sainik) and warrior in the Kittur princely state of the Karnataka. He was the Shetsanadi of the Kingdom of Kittur ruled at the time by Rani Chennamma and fought the British East India Company till his death. His life was the subject of the 2012 Kannada film Sangolli Rayanna.

Kittur, also known as Kitturu and historically as Kittoor, is a taluka in the Belgaum district of the Indian state of Karnataka. It was part of Bailhongal taluka but was declared as an independent taluka on 23 October 2012 by the Chief Minister of Karnataka on the inauguration of Kittur Utsav. It is 177th Taluk of Karnataka State. It is a place of historical importance because of the armed rebellion of Kittur Chennamma (1778–1829), Rani of the State of Kittur against the British East India Company, during which a British Commissioner, St John Thackeray was killed.

Kittur Chennamma Indian freedom fighter

Kittur Chennamma was the Indian queen (rani) of Kittur, a princely state in present-day Karnataka. She led an armed rebellion against the British East India Company in 1824 in defiance of the doctrine of lapse in an attempt to maintain Indian control over the region, but was defeated and died imprisoned. One of the first female rulers to rebel against British rule, she has become a folk hero in Karnataka and symbol of the independence movement in India.

Onake Obavva was a brave woman who fought the forces of Hyder Ali single-handedly with a pestle (Onake) in the kingdom of Chitradurga of Karnataka, India. Her husband was a guard of a watchtower in the rocky fort of Chitradurga. In the state of Karnataka, she is celebrated along with Abbakka Rani, Keladi Chennamma and Kittur Chennamma, as the foremost women warriors and patriots. She belonged to the Holayas (Chalavadi) community.

Keladi Chennamma was the queen of Keladi Kingdom in Karnataka. She took birth in the household of a man called Siddappa Shetty, who was a native merchant in the region of Kundapur, Karnataka. She was from the Bunt community. Chennamma married King Somashekara Nayaka in 1667 CE. After Somashekhara Nayaka's death in 1677, Chennamma efficiently handled the administration of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty. During her reign of 25 years, she repelled the advance of the Mughal Army led by Aurangzeb from her military base in the kingdom of Keladi located in Sagara, Karnataka, India. She adopted Basavappa Nayaka, one of her close relatives who succeeded as Hiriya Basappa Nayaka. She also rendered a trade agreement with the Portuguese involving commodities like pepper and rice.

Shivalingappa Rudrappa Kanthi, popularly known as S. R. Kanti, was the Chief Minister of Karnataka for a brief period in 1962. He hailed from Lingayat religion in Hungund in Bagalkot district in the northern part of Karnataka. A member of the Indian National Congress (INC), he served as the Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 1956 to 1962. Kanti was Chief Minister of the State for a brief period of 96 days in 1962. Later, as Education Minister in the S. Nijalingappa Cabinet he was instrumental in the establishment of Bangalore University and Kittur Rani Chennamma Sainik Schools.

Abbakka Chowta Rani of Ullal

Rani Abbakka Chowta was the first Tuluva Queen of Ullal who fought the Portuguese in the later half of the 16th century. She belonged to the Chowta dynasty who ruled over parts of coastal Karnataka, India. Their capital was Puttige. The port town of Ullal served as their subsidiary capital. The Portuguese made several attempts to capture Ullal as it was strategically placed. But Abbakka repulsed each of their attacks for over four decades. For her bravery, she came to be known as Abhaya Rani. She was also one of the earliest Indians to fight colonialism and is sometimes regarded as the 'first woman freedom fighter of India'. In the state of Karnataka, she is celebrated along with Rani Kittur Chennamma, Keladi Chennamma, Queen Chennabhairadevi and Onake Obavva, as the foremost women warriors and patriots.

Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna is a 2012 Indian Kannada-language war film directed by Naganna and produced by Anand Appugol. Darshan, Jayaprada and Nikita Thukral play lead roles. The film is about Sangolli Rayanna, a prominent freedom fighter from Karnataka, who fought the East India Company till he was captured and executed in 1831. He was the army chief of the Kingdom of Kittur ruled at the time by Kittur Rani Chennamma.
