Vijay Nahar (born 8 November 1942) is an Indian author and historian who has written reference books on Indian history and political figures. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Nahar was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a Pracharak (full-time volunteer) for over two decades, serving in the states of Haryana and Rajasthan. [5] [6] He has held various organizational positions in Rajasthan, including founder secretary of the Rajasthan Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad and the Rajasthan Prodh Shiksha Sansthan, Jaipur. He also serves as the president of Marudhar Vidyapeeth Samiti, Pali. [7]
During the Indian Emergency (1975–1977), Nahar was detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) for his political activities. [8] [9] He has spoken publicly about his experiences during this period, including at events commemorating figures like Jayaprakash Narayan. [10]
Nahar was also involved in political organization work in Udaipur, where, according to reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 38 out of 40 constituencies in the 1977 elections during his tenure as RSS Vibhag Pracharak of the region. [11]
Vijay Nahar has authored several books on Indian political figures, historical events, and cultural topics. His book Swarnim Bharat Ke Swapnadrishta Narendra Modi, published by Pinkcity Publishers, covers the life and political career of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. [12] The book was included in school libraries in Rajasthan as part of a government initiative. [13] It was released at an event attended by RSS leader Indresh Kumar, politician Ashok Parnami, and academic P. L. Chaturvedi. [14] [15] The book received media coverage following its release in 2014. [16]
In 2016, Vijay Nahar published three books. The first, titled Samrat Bhoj Parmar, is a historical overview of the Parmar dynasty in the Malwa region, released by Pinkcity Publishers. The book was introduced at an event attended by Rajasthan's Higher Education Minister, Kalicharan Saraf. [17]
Another publication from that year, Vasundhara Raje Aur Viksit Rajasthan, focuses on the political career of Vasundhara Raje and was published by Prabhat Prakashan. A copy of the book was presented to the Governor of Rajasthan prior to its official release. It has been described as one of the early biographical accounts of Raje. Governor Kalyan Singh acknowledged Nahar's interest in writing Indian History. [18] [19] [1] [20] The third book, Apatkal Ke Kale Divas, addresses the Indian Emergency period (June 1975–March 1977). It was released during an event on Independence Day 2016 in Pali, Rajasthan, attended by state and local representatives. [21] Nahar subsequently published Prarambhik Islamik Akraman Evam Bharatiya Pratirodh, which explores early Islamic incursions into India and the responses of Indian rulers from the 7th to 13th centuries. [22] He is also the author of Adhunik Bharat Ke Brahmarshi Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, a work that combines biographical elements with an overview of Deendayal Upadhyaya's political thought, including the concept of Ekatma Manavvaad. The book was launched by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at an event attended by Rajasthan's then Home Minister, Gulab Chand Kataria. It has been featured in educational publications. [23] [24] [25] [26] In addition to political biographies, Nahar has written on figures from the Jain Terapanth tradition. His books Mrityunjay Mahayogi Acharya Bhikshu [27] and Yugdrishta Yugpurush Acharya Tulsi [28] focus on the first and ninth Acharyas of the tradition, respectively. The book on Acharya Bhikshu was released in Pali Marwar by the current Terapanth Acharya, Mahashraman. He has also authored Terapanth Dharm Sangh Ke Pravartak—Acharya Sant Bhikhanji Pali Mein, and Acharya Bhikhanji Ke Marg Ka Aadhar Purush—Muni Hemraj Ji. Both works examine the early foundations of the Terapanth sect and were released by Acharya Mahashraman. [29] [30] [31]
Nahar has written a series of books focusing on Indian history from 467 CE to 1200 CE. These works aim to explore political, social, and cultural developments during what some historians refer to as the "Andhkar Yug" or "Dark Period" in Indian historiography. His book Shiladitya Samrat Harshvardhan Evam Unka Yug, published in 2013, focuses on northern India from 467 CE to 810 CE, with particular attention to the reign of Harshvardhan. It is noted as one of the first books specifically dedicated to Harshvardhan's period. [32] [33]
Other titles in this historical series include Samrat Yashovarman, Samrat Mihir Bhoj Evam Unka Yug, Samrat Bhoj Parmar, Yugpurush Bappa Rawal, Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, and Prarambhik Islamik Akraman Evam Bharatiya Pratirodh. These works collectively document the governance, military campaigns, and regional resistance efforts of Indian rulers during the early medieval period. [34] [35] [36]
Nahar's books Hinduva Surya Maharana Pratap and Haldighati Yudh Ke Vijeta-Maharana Pratap explores the historical figure Maharana Pratap and his legacy in Mewar. The book discusses interpretations of Pratap’s birthplace, the Battle of Haldighati, his family, and his interactions with the Mughal Empire, including assessments of contemporary narratives. Nahar's subsequent publication, Yugpurush Bappa Rawal, explores the life, lineage, and military campaigns of Bappa Rawal, a ruler of the Guhila dynasty. The book was introduced at an event by officials of the Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana. [54]
In Hinduva Surya Maharana Pratap Ki Janmasthali – Punyadhara Pali, Nahar presents historical claims and sources suggesting that Maharana Pratap was born in Pali, Rajasthan. The book was launched in Juni Kachari, Pali, at a function attended by public representatives and local scholars. According to the book, Pratap was born in 1540 CE (Vikram Samvat 1597) to Jaywanti Devi, daughter of Songara ruler Akheraj. [55] [56] In 2023, Nahar published Haldighati Yuddha Ka Vijeta Maharana Pratap, which examines the events and outcomes of the Battle of Haldighati. The book was released by the Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana and is also available through digital publishing platforms. [57] [58] [59] Nahar has also written works focused on the local history of the Pali region of Rajasthan, India. These include titles on Rathore Vansh Ke Sansthapak Rao Sinhaji, [60] Pali Naresh Akheraj Songara—the maternal grandfather of Maharana Pratap, and Azadi Ke Diwane Pali Kshetra Ke Swatantrata Senani, which documents freedom fighters from the Pali district. His other works include Sanatan Dharma Hamari Sanskritik Dharohar, which discusses the cultural heritage of Sanatan Dharma, and Krantikari Dr. Hedgewar, a biographical account of Dr. K.B. Hedgewar's life and contributions.
Vijay Nahar has been jailed for protesting Emergency. He has worked as RSS Vibhag Pracharak of Udaipur at the time of emergency. [114] Rajasthan State Energy minister Pushpendra Singh Ranawat, Pali MLA Gyanchand Parakh and BJP committee of Pali district awarded him for his duty as National security guard against the tortures of the Indra Gandhi government during the Emergency. [115] In 2018 and again in 2019, the Sundar Singh Bhandari Charitable Trust honored Nahar for his work with the RSS and for his writing on Indian history. These awards were presented at events in Kota and Udaipur, respectively, in the presence of state-level dignitaries including Gulab Chand Kataria and Thanvarchand Gehlot.
