Village Love or The Village Lovers (French - L'Amour au village) is an oil on canvas painting by Jules Bastien-Lepage, from 1882. It is held at the Pushkin Museum, in Moscow. [1]
It was acquired in 1885 by Russian art patron Sergei Tretyakov at the posthumous sale of the artist's works at Georges Petit's gallery, in Paris. [2] [3] The Musée du Luxembourg had initially been interested in the work, but instead chose Haymaking (later transferred to the Louvre then to the Musée d'Orsay [4] [5] ). Village Love later entered the State Museum of New Western Art and the Pushkin Museum, in Moscow, in 1948 where it still hangs. [6]
The painting depicts a young man and a young girl dressed in peasant fashion, standing next to each other, on either side of a wooden fence separating two plots of land. The young girl stands behind the fence, with her face not visible. She wears a long skirt, and her is hair styled in two braids. On the fence, she placed her scarf. The young man stands facing the viewers, leaning slightly so that his face is at the same level with that of the girl. He wears a light-colored shirt and his breeches are protected by a special apron. He seems embarrassed, possibly because he's talking about his love for her. The background consists of the church tower and facades of peasant houses. Towards the right, there is the silhouette of a woman working. [7]
In 1973, the Soviet Ministry of Communications issued a postage stamp with the reproduction of the painting, the value of which was 16 kopecks. [8]
The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is the largest museum of European art in Moscow. located in Volkhonka street, just opposite the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The International musical festival Sviatoslav Richter's December nights has been held in the Pushkin Museum since 1981.
The Musée d'Orsay is a museum in Paris, France, on the Left Bank of the Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Berthe Morisot, Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, and van Gogh. Jules Bastien-Lepage was a French painter closely associated with the beginning of naturalism, an artistic style that grew out of the Realist movement and paved the way for the development of impressionism. Émile Zola described Bastien-Lapage's work as "impressionism corrected, sweetened and adapted to the taste of the crowd."

Young Girls at the Piano is an oil-on-canvas painting by French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style. The painting represents his late work period (1892–1919). It was completed in 1892 as an informal commission for the Musée du Luxembourg. Renoir painted three other variations of this composition in oil and two sketches, one in oil and one in pastel. Known by the artist as repetitions, they were executed to fulfill commissions from dealers and collectors. The work is on public display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris.
Alexander Aizenshtat is a French-Austrian artist known as the founder of a new movement in world fine arts - metaphysical expressionism. He lives and works in Jerusalem, in Beit Meir. He is also known for following Orthodox Jewish practice, keeping the requirements strictly. Today he is working in the Kingdom of Bahrain to prepare a substantive collection of new paintings celebrating Bahrain’s rich cultural heritage under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with continued support of His Excellency Sheikh Rashid Al Khalifa.

The State Museum of Modern Western Art was a museum in Moscow. It originated in the merger of the 1st and 2nd Museums of Modern Western Painting in 1923. It was based on the collection of paintings assembled by Sergei Schukin and Ivan Morozov. It was shut down on 6 March 1948 by Stalin and its works split between the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.
Vairumati tei Oa is an 1892 painting by Paul Gauguin, produced during his time in Polynesia. Its title translates as Her name was Vairaumati. It remained in the artist's family before passing to Ambroise Vollard's gallery in Paris. Sergei Schukin acquired it from the latter in 1904 and in 1918 it was acquired by the 1st Museum of New Western Painting. Since 1948 it has been in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.
The Battle of the Milvian Bridge, The Battle of the Bridge or The Battle Between the Emperors Maxentius and Constantine is a 1655 oil on canvas painting by Claude Lorrain, now in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Despite the title, according to E. B. Sharnova, the painting has no historical specificity.
The Bucentaur Returns to the Pier at the Doge's Palace or The Doge of Venice Departs for the Festival of the Betrothal of Venice to the Adriatic Sea is a c.1730 oil on canvas painting by Canaletto. It was acquired together with his Reception of the French Ambassador in Venice in the 1760s for the Hermitage Museum. In 1930 The Bucentaur was transferred to the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, where it remains. Variants of the work survive in several collections, including the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle, the Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Uffizi, whilst a copy by Fyodor Alekseyev is in the Russian Museum.
