Vinod Pande (also known as Vinod Pandey) is an Indian film director, actor, producer and writer.

Biography

Pande was born in the state of Uttar Pradesh, where his father was working as a doctor at a government dispensary. Pande studied social work in Udaipur and came to Bombay in the early 1960s. There he worked for All India Radio, among others. In May 1966, he moved to London, where he worked at the advertising agency Image Enterprises, for which he made several commercials. He also worked as a Hindi news anchor at the BBC. For the British Film Institute he made his first documentary in Hindi, London Me Bharat, in 1972, which deals with the everyday life of South Asian British people in the London suburbs (Southall). In 1980, he made his first Hindi film Ek Baar Phir , which was produced entirely in the UK. The film was denied permission to contest in the National Film Awards for this reason. Following this, Pande moved back to India. [1] With Star (1982), he tried the form of the film musical in the western style. [4] The film used the album Star/Boom Boom as its soundtrack. [5] The album featured music composed by British-Indian producer Biddu, who was also the film's producer. [6]

His film Sins (2005), which deals with the sexual relationship between a Catholic priest and a younger woman, provoked protests from Indian Christians. [7] The film is based on a news story that Pande read in 1988 about a Kerala priest sentenced to death on sexual harassment and murder charges. [8] The psychological thriller Red Swastik (2007), with model Sherlyn Chopra in the lead role, had scenes that were comparatively revealing for Indian films - after being raped, the protagonist takes revenge on her tormentors and kills them one after the other. [9]

Pande is the author of three English-language novels: Don's Wife, Saanvri - The Story of a Concubine, and Destiny. [1]

Vinod Khanna was an Indian actor, film producer and politician who is best known for his work in Hindi films; while also being a notable spiritual seeker. In Bollywood, he was the recipient of two Filmfare awards. Khanna was one of the highest-paid stars of his times, along with Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. He was the only superstar who could compete with Amitabh Bachchan's box office run in late 1970s to early 1980s before taking break from films. Khanna was considered the style icon & fashion icon, often referred as 'Sexy Sanyasi' in media. After joining politics, he became the MP from the Gurdaspur constituency between 1998–2009 and 2014–2017. The film depicts the unconventional passionate affair of a young girl with an older priest. Deciding to keep their love story confidential, things take such a twist that their love story takes a perpetual transformation into a story marked by jealousy, hatred, and treachery.

Brijmohan Sadanah, often credited as Brij, was an Indian film producer and director known for his work in Hindi cinema. He is very well known for some of the most memorable box office hit films from the 1960s to 1980s such as Do Bhai, Yeh Raat Phir Na Aaygi, Ustadon Ke Ustad, Night In London, Victoria No. 203, Chori Mera Kaam, Ek Se Badhkar Ek, Yakeen, Professor Pyarelal. Meena Shorey was a Pakistani film actress who worked first in Indian cinema and later Pakistani cinema. She appeared in Hindi/Urdu and Punjabi films. Credited in films by her mononym, Meena, her real name was Khurshid Jehan. She started her acting career playing a character role, as Ambhi, Raja of Taxila's sister in Sohrab Modi's Sikandar (1941). Married to her third husband, Roop K. Shorey, by the mid-1940s, she found fame when she acted in her husband's film Ek Thi Larki (1949), opposite actor Motilal. The story was written by I. S. Johar, who also starred in the film. The "foot-tapping" music composed by Vinod became a "huge hit", with Meena becoming an "icon" for the "new liberated" young women. Meena was acclaimed as the "Lara Lappa Girl", from the song of same title in the film. She was one of the first women to be recognised in Indian cinema as a "comedienne of calibre". She was also popularly known as The Droll Queen of Partition as she worked in both in India and Pakistan.

<i>Ek Naya Rishta</i> 1988 Indian film

Ek Naya Rishta is a 1988 Indian drama film. The film was produced and directed by Vinod Pande, starring Rekha, Raj Kiran, Mazhar Khan and Om Shivpuri among others. The film is a modern take on relationships, business, independence, interdependence and the institution of marriage and hints at indirect surrogacy. It was perhaps the first movie of its time to talk about surrogacy. It also highlighted how society forces the helpless to fall prey to the murky business of prostitution and lesbianism.
