Virginia's 77th House of Delegates district elects one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. District 77 is in Chesapeake and Suffolk. Cliff Hayes Jr. represents the district. [1] For the 2019 election, Delegate Hayes ran against Ron Wallace, the Republican candidate from Chesapeake.

Lionell Spruill Sr. is an American politician. A Democrat, Spruill has represented the 5th district of the Virginia Senate since 2017. Between 1994 and 2016, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for the 77th district, made up of parts of the cities of Chesapeake and Suffolk. In June 2023, he failed to win the Democratic primary to retain his seat, after redistricting which placed him in the same district as veteran state senator, Louise Lucas.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Virginia House of Delegates election</span>

The 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election took place on November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Virginia Senate, to elect members of the 163rd Virginia General Assembly. All 100 delegates are elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20, 2023. The election saw the Democrats regain control of the House of Delegates after winning a 1-seat majority.
